It's good to see AAMI did something for someone. I will never use them again.

Before I bought the T I had a little 92 pulsar SSS. Owned from new and it went like a rocket for a car of that size. Still think it prob has the best straight 2 litre motor in it's class.

Anyway.... Was driving home and at a set of lights where I go straight through a 4 wheel drive hung a right coming the other way across in front of me and I drove straight into his front left guard.

AAMI were good at this point. I reported it to them and they organised for me to take the car to a few places of there's in the area for quotes. Couldn't wait for them to do it as wife was due in 4 weeks. So did the quote hunting for them.

Got the car back and I was really happy with how it had all gone. However what happened next lost me as a customer forever.

Took the car and a m8 to see the Goodies in Parramatta the second night after receiving the car back. It was a humid night and raining. So I put the airco on to demist the front window. After about 10 mins there was a terrible smell in the car and black smoke coming out from under the bonnet and the front window wasn't demisting.

Parked at Parramatta and popped the bonnet and looked in. Couldn't really tell where it was coming from so just decided to take the car back to the repairer the next day to get them to look at it.

They determined it to being the seal on the compressor had blown and shot the whole airco system, that had just been replaced to pieces. $2,200 to replace what had just been replaced and wanted me to pay. Not sure if you know or not. If the compressor blows it fires tiny shards of metal right through your airco system and is almost impossible to get out.

I didn't know this but the guy who repaired the airco explained to me that when the car came in they needed to retrofit the airco with the new gas. Then he tells me that the compressor on this car was well known for not being able to handle the new gas but they did it anyway.

Called AAMI at least 5 times over a period of 2 weeks asking them about the warranty for the crap job done on my car and that they knew it wouldn't handle the new gas and I was never informed of such. My mechanic went over the car and told me what had happened. He also called AAMI for me to let them know what had happened.

Suffice it to say I got nothing (except a broken car back) and told that it wasn't there fault it could have gone at anytime it just chose now. Thanks for coming.

I cancelled my policy right there. Can you tell I'm a little bitter and have let everyone I know never to use them.

Oh one thing you may not know about AAMI before you sign up. They will use second hand parts to repair your vehicle not new. It is there policy. They do guarantee the second hand parts for the life of the car, but there still second hand. You won't read this on there website, just call them, they will confirm this. It's what makes your premium cheaper than the rest.

The story isn't finished yet. The excess I payed at the beginning when they were deliberating over who was at fault took about 6 weeks. No biggie. However I had to call them twice in the following 2 weeks on top of the original 6 to remind them that they owed me money. Got it 3 weeks later.

This is when I sold my little SSS and bought the T. My wife owns an 86 laser, and that is the car we were going to trade for the T. Then AAMI screwed that over and we had to keep the laser and sell the SSS. Really not happy about that. The laser is the biggest sh*tbox in the world, but a better car than what AAMI left me with.

SWANN insurance are the worst. I called AAMI and was going to sign up, they impressed me and came recommended but Elders even cheaper. House and two cars now insured with Elders.

Conversely,

I have my House and Contents Insurance with AAMI.

My 2nd Car (Falcon AUII Futura) is insured with NRMA.

I tried insuring it with AAMI but for some stupid reason, AAMI want to charge me about $150 more than NRMA even though I have 2 other policies with them......go figure.

Good to see people are happy with AAMI service.

I insured my T, July 1 after Phase II mods with them - all documented and all fine.

Didn't have to cancel NRMA insurance that I had as they cancelled me when I advised them of the mods - the issue? NRMA will not insure any car with a replacement catalytic convertor FULL STOP (I.e. APS exhaust & cat).

I had checked this out already of course and was really happy to be 'cancelled' as AAMI were heaps cheaper anyway. :kissmy:

Shannons - more expensive than both and wouldn't insure me in the end as I use the car for work too. Some other mob (Cars Only, or Cars R Us, or something like that) were also extremely expensive. :kissmy:

AAMI all the way. :spoton:

Funny thing is my home buildings insurance is due tonight and AAMI are more expensive than NRMA, home contents is due in a few days and the same thing applies. Also for home insurance some of the AAMI clauses look dodgy e.g. insurance for fire is defined as "fire with flames". Read between the lines....this means if the place next door burns down and my house is destroyed by smoke I'm not covered. Then again NRMA have dodgy things too.....

Hmmm, how come I am the only one that AAMI seems to have refused to insure? They sent me over to Just Cars after I had been with them for 10 years and now I am paying nearly twice as much as I was, but everything is listed.

RACV and AAMI wanted too much when I had the Commodore. When discussing the insurance quote the usual thing, has the vehicle been modified, are there any extras?

This was a V6 VX Berlina. As soon as I mentioned that it was factory fitted with FE2 suspension the price went through the roof, and my under 25 son wasn't allowed to drive it.

Someone from work suggested Elders. There comment was, FE2 or not it is still a Commodore. So all the insurances went to Elders.

I think some of the AAMI mod changes are fairly new? Maybe some of the stories of refusal etc are old?

Age does matter and the number of mods is dependant on age. But it seemed REALLY good at any age.

Not really sure if this is as new as I think - anyone know?

Being 41 at the time, no accident history, driving since 17 (P), no major fines etc etc. Life is easy.

Funny, despite a 'perfect' record/age etc NRMA just make decisions based on arbitrary policies - in a big organisation I can understand this - still.....who is the loser. :spoton:

Not me! AAMI are the winner as well.
