Trouble is that is the rules. Not up to the driver/s to work it amongt themselves to wear them or not wearr them. CAMS should have investigated this better and its really their fault and the teams for letting them do it.

I can tell you its not a good feeling when you are on the receiving end in a coronial enquiry being grilled by the judge when he says  "why didnt you as the organizer of the event enforce the rules?"

that's what would happen to the clerk of course should Ambrose been cooked in a fire in the car. OK it dint happen, but I have been the guy in the court taking the flak for the system and that's when you wish that the driver had obeyed the rule book... and your team of official had been doing their job rather than walking around trying to get autographs....

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I dont doubt that they shouldnt have been penalised, as you said rules are rules and I agree, but I am sure there is more to it than what the TV telecast was able to portray, but I feel we are on the same lines on the situation anyway.

Being 5 seconds back (when in safety car formation), and a few cars back is a big difference from being in front. I accept that Ambrose may have won if he hadnt been wiped out, may have won if he had worn his balaclava, but the bigger chance was that the car in front would have stayed in front. Ambrose is fast - that's why he has won the Championship - but not that much better than everyone else that it was a forgone conclusion.

The Great race is all about 'what ifs' there were probably 10 teams who could have won the race, and 9 of them didnt because of various incidents and breakages. Ambrose was one of them.

Lets hope for a better result next year!

Hi Guys

I recoreded the shootout and the race on Sunday. I went through the Shootout last night and I THINK Skaife was not wearing a balaclava during the Shootout.

Does that mean he does not get the Win?

This Bathurst is a real JOKE!!!!!!! The days of the better Driver/Team/Car winning on the day are GONE!!!!

Cheers

yeah it is getting to be a joke and not just politically.Holdens with 9' diffs and watts linkages.BA's with old 5 litre v8's........how relevant these days are they really?I see production racing going the same way with the GT getting an alloy block to compensate for the boss being badly positioned too high in the chassis.I suppose the Holdens(and the dominant STi's god forbid) will get an equally inapproprite mod to compensate.None of this improves the breed.Bring back the old days of homologation when you raced a factory built hotrod!

Why did Ambrose do the splash and dash after coming in to put on the balaclava.....

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

He came in for the balaclava with about 40 laps to go. The next scheduled stop was with about 30 laps to go and this would have got them through to the end of the race.

So he needed the splash to make it to the end.

Bring back Series Production! :gooff:

Not even like we have now but like Bathurst in the late 60's and 70's! Race it like they built it...EXACTLY as it came off the floor dafe for a roll cage. :msm: Classes for price and not engine capacity!

It'd be great, GT's vs LS2 vs STi vs Evo IX and XR6T's vs SS vs Clio Sport vs WRX.

You'd bet your life Ford wouldn't release brake that shudder and Expensive Daewoo would think twice about power steering that explodes if you had a competition like that.

Lumpy

Great point Lumpy, I was thinking the same thing the other day.

Even a 5 lap race in the current format on the Saturday or Sunday.

Bog stock,

XR8 v's SS

GT v's Clubsport

Pursuit v's Maloo

Maybe after having it's arse handed to it in front of a national audience Ford might actually do somthing about performance and quality of components.
