Do you really think those vehicles are 'off the showroom floor' ?

I can tell you they are not, and the racing is butchered to make it close !!

I was involved in that category a few years ago (When it was still Procar), with a car that got more and more restrictions (Read weight added, and rev limit reduced) until the other cars in the class became competative ! There was no point in pushing the car to only be more and more slowed down !

Bring back Series Production!

Not even like we have now but like Bathurst in the late 60's and 70's! Race it like they built it...EXACTLY as it came off the floor dafe for a roll cage. Classes for price and not engine capacity!

It'd be great, GT's vs LS2 vs STi vs Evo IX and XR6T's vs SS vs Clio Sport vs WRX.

You'd bet your life Ford wouldn't release brake that shudder and Expensive Daewoo would think twice about power steering that explodes if you had a competition like that.

Make them race them as they come. Like it used to be, drive to the track, change tyres, go racing for the day, drive home if nothing went wrong !

I used to do that with my Minis and Escorts - drive up with the slicks where the back seat lives.

Was cheap - fun, private guys could race against professional teams - much better!

Nah, I mean real bog stock PRODUCTION cars. No Motec ECU's, no parity weighting. Just classes based on PRICE! Remember the days an XY GT-HO was in the same class as an Alfa-Romeo 1750?

If the Bathurst 24Hr was such a format with real, available cars, not one off Expensive Daewoo Specials and Mosler Supercars, all with completely different specs I would be there with caffine tablets on

Reckon a stock XR6T or SS could lap bathurst for 8 hours at flat chat? That'd be one hell of a durability test...great for associated manufacturers credibility

No problem..... after the first half a dozen laps, the brake shudder would be that bad you would have to cruise around for the rest of the race......

I heard him say it was a gentlemans agreement over the balaclava, well if that's the case, Why did they decide to make it an issue when it looked like ford would maybe win for a change.

I believe that bathurst has for a few years been on the side of holden.

Maybe I am wrong, but it seems to me that way.

Suspicions are there. It does seem that way but you can't say that for sure. Luck simply doesn't seem to swing our way on the Mountain.

Ambrose did exceptionally well to maintain his position as 5th in the field. Murphy tried an aggressive move to retake Ambrose and it went horribly wrong. Incorrect split time reactions would have been the cause but yeah. Lowndes, both SBR cars, it was a dark day for Ford. Destroyed the day for me and I too were thinking Murphy, Holden" but finally experiencing the "Big Race" was truly an experience that I won't forget. Watched the race from various vantage points "Hell Corner", "The Dipper" on the decline of the mountain. Peeved with the result but what can you do.

As for the balaclava incident, I'm not going there, really p1$$ed about the whole thing.

Trouble is that is the rules. Not up to the driver/s to work it amongt themselves to wear them or not wearr them. CAMS should have investigated this better and its really their fault and the teams for letting them do it.

I can tell you its not a good feeling when you are on the receiving end in a coronial enquiry being grilled by the judge when he says  "why didnt you as the organizer of the event enforce the rules?"

that's what would happen to the clerk of course should Ambrose been cooked in a fire in the car. OK it dint happen, but I have been the guy in the court taking the flak for the system and that's when you wish that the driver had obeyed the rule book... and your team of official had been doing their job rather than walking around trying to get autographs....

Coronial enquiry, Royal Commission, whatever. You cannot be held responsible for an individual's actions. What's stopping him/her from tearing the balaclava off the moment the driver drives off? In your instance DallasQLD it sounds like your team official wasn't doing their job.
