Well done on the order mate!

From what I've read here, the good gen appears to be

1) Don't thrash the sh*t out of it too early in it's life, but

2) Do load up the engine to bed the rings in properly, and

3) change the oil at the 3k service if not before.

Definately no Mrs Daisy driving though! Spirited is what I plan when I get mine :spoton:

When people talk in 1000s of kilometres for running in a car I worry.

Do you know how many revolutions your motor has made after 1000kms or care to imagine how many times the pistons have gone up and down?

Race motors are built with much finer and tighter tolerances then production motors, when was the last time you seen a race motor be run-in over 2500km (2 and ½ complete Bathurst races) the point is if your motor is not run in after a few hundred kilometres there is something wrong.

I have never been a fan of running in new motors, and have always had and seen good results with my “quick run-in” method.

Sure your Ford dealer is going to talk crap from his ass, that’s what they do best, if it was up to Ford they would like to see people run them in for 20,000kms.

Conclusion:

200-300kms of bringing the revs up and down will be fine.

(Try to avoid prolong constant revs)

I was told once that 80% of engine run-in is achieved in the first 100km, but like everything else it's all ballpark. Load the engine up and vary the revs seems to be a common theme though.

Going on the 100km run in theory, the car will be 80% run in by the time I get her home from the dealer (live in Melb, dealer in Geelong).

I guess it will be alot of surging and backing off on the way home :spoton:

p.s the dealer told me today that my car is build #0394, does anyone know what they made it to before stopping and changing to the BF ???

Hi,

Being a company car, I belted the shiet out of my F6 from the moment they gave me the keys.

The result was a 224 Kw run on the dyno and 13.2 second 1/4 mile. The bloody thing loved every minute of it up until I gave it back.

If I had paid for it out of my pocket...I would have waited for 100k's to clock over.

IMO..If the engine is a dud, running it properly is not going to help it.

Just drive the car anyway you like..It cannot be worse than what I did to mine.

Enjoy your ride you lucky you.

Hey shockF6, hope you are enjoying your new machine. Lucky guy!

It's my understanding that with any cars these days, it's best just to run them as if you were driving it normally, though that does not mean thrash the livin' daylights out of it if you're that kind of driver! :stirthepot:

They don't need babying along and don't drive at the same revs for mile after mile otherwise things don't bed in properly. Let your revs go up and down, give the engine a bit of a push every now and then, but don't strain it I.e. hard accelration in a gear too high. Better to over-rev a bit than "under-rev." Also make sure your oil is warm before you give it heaps of throttle. I have been told that traffic is also good for running in because the engine revs go up and down.
