Just Picked Up My New T

FINALLY (well, actually it only took three weeks - man I really feel for you people who had to wait months...) I got my brand spankin' new T. YEEEEEHAAAAAAAA.

I would like to of course officially welcome myself to the "owners" club. Cheers, ra-ra etc.

So I had to tool around town for a while and feel her out. When I pulled up at the lights one time however, I noticed smoke coming from behind the car. I also smelt a burning oil smell. I jumped out and there was (a small but noticable amount of) smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. This was after a 10 minute 100k/h cruise, no thrashing.

There's still a slight burning smell after about 30k's.

I'm guessing it's just oiled bits getting burned in or something. Maybe the exhaust has a slight "production" coat of oil to stop it rusting or something?

Has anyone else noticed this with a new car? Am I worrying about nothing? Should I rush back to my dealer or sit it out for a couple of hundred k's and see if it clears up?

Also, thanks to a previous thread, I did a very detailed once over with the sales dude. I opted for a spare 18" and decided to pull up the carpet and take off the cover board. There were a couple of gouges out of the spare. The sales guy did not bat an eyelid and got one of the overall dudes to bring me a new unmarked one. Were they trying to pull a shifty? Who knows. But they didn't hesitate to swap it. So lesson is - when picking up a new car, go over EVERYTHING. Thanks to the tip in the last thread.

BTW, car is Vixen, luxury pack (man them seats are nice), 18" wheels, tow pack and tint (legal after good forum suggestions).

The smoke is normal the exact same thing happened to me, I think it is the Turbo, plus while the engine runs in you will get the odd burning smell. Make sure you run the Air-Con at least once a week aswell.

Congrats :spoton:

I think the whole motor is coated in that wax stuff, it stinks worse than fresh vomit when its burning off too. The T does use a bit of excess oil when new, if it is still around in after a few hundred kays take it back then.

Dazza.
