Had a great run the other weekend. Me in my XR and my mate in his Porsche Boxer leading the way up the local range. I knew I could at least keep up on the straight sections but thought as soon as a corner came up I'd be lost for certain. After the first couple of corners he gunned it and so I did the same. While he crept away a little during cornering to my suprise as soon as we began to straighten up I was all over the back of the Porsche again in seconds. We were nose to tail the good majority of the way up, until around 2/3rd's of the way to the sumit when my poor trasmittion decided it had had enough and so wouldn't let me change into 3rd gear anymore at high rev's, so from there I had to leave it in 3rd which of corse ment I was very slow out of corners but the torque of the XR always got me close before the next corner came up. All said and done my mate was very impressed by the performence of the XR and sh*t so was I.

Does anyone know what would have caused the car to not want to change gears anymore? I have a strong suspicion the clutch was overheating.

The symptoms were: would come out of gear fine but at high rev's would just make that awful grinding sound when you tried to put it in third. After the car had a little rest (stoped for a drink at the top), no problem and it changes just fine now. What would need to be done to stop it happening again?

Cheers people,

Safe and happy driving, XR6TBug.

Gearbox went into limp home (protection) mode? Did any lights flash on the dash or on the selector thingy? I think Ian (Goldie) had a similar problem one day! No wonder many people reccomend a Transmission cooler even for stock cars!

Lumpy :spoton:
