How would you describe the sound from the sub in comparison to the sound when run of an aftermarket head unit?? I might have to do the same. What speakers do you have in the front?? I have some pioneer splits which I might stick in the front and run them off another alpine I have.

I have noticed this without the sub attached, turning the stereo up quickly and you get a loud sound (pretty muddy one too) then it cuts the bass back to clean it up in the stock speakers. Haven't got my car handy, but from memory there is a screen in the menu that has CD compression and something else that sounds like what you're talking about, and I think both can be disabled. The manual says something about leaving them on to protect it from distorting, but I've switched both mine off - sounds much better like that. I intend on mounting the alpine amp where the std amp is because it fits pretty good. However until im happy with the sound its just saying under the rubber boot liner. Looking at it last night didnt make it sound any better

The same goes for non premium sound falcons. Have a look at my photos of the speakers above. I have connected the line level converter to the rear speakers so that I can reconnect the speakers as well.
