I'm the proud owner of a 2003 xr8, however, I purchased this car second hand, and it came without the premium sound package.

I've been looking for someone to install an amp/sub package in my car for a while, and haven't found anyone who has worked on a BA before.

In short, I don't trust someone who doesnt know what they're doing with my baby. Can someone tell me if it's possible to install an aftermarket amp/sub package and if so, how they did ?

We found that when we got our car new in 2002 but I just did it myself but they still say it can't be bloody wombats in the audio industry just done like doing things that are different.

I also own a second hand XR8, and yeah it has been done.

Running two Kenwood 2 channels to power Focal splits in front and rear (keep away from those nasty 6x9 types IMO) and an Alpine mono powering 2 x 12" subs in the boot. For me the bass is too much (I like bass but this is shaking the sh*t out of the boot - and that's with a box of deadening in there!) needs some tweaking but overall the sound seems good. Can't recommend the Focal splits enough - very impressive!

Goldie's audio setup is pretty impressive - one you tend to remember : )

I too have experienced that nasty popping sound from the sub. Sounds like it is bottoming out.

My question is this. Do I really have to wire in a new amp? Can't I just get a new driver to replace the obviously sh*tty quality one that comes from the factory, and run it from the factory amp, even if I have to use a separate box for it?

OK, it won't be perfect, but as long as I stop the nasty popping, I'll be happy...

Look out for some basic pics in the next few days.

A question for the true audio nuts. Why exactly does an alpine Head unit make my same subs+amp sound mint, whereas my factory head unit makes them sound crap?? Is an after market unit the only TRUE fix?? Thanks guys.

I want to know where is the best location in the boot for an aftermarket amp?

My installer wants to locate it on the back of the rear seat on the driver's side (bigger split seat). But I want to wedge the sub box there and it might interfere.

I have an alpine V12 mono channel and it can fit in the spot where the factory (premium sound) amp sits. I doubt it would get any decent cooling though. Also not sure if boots with standard stereo have the in built bump on the passenger side where the amp is located.

I have also noticed that the standard sub makes decent sound but just not loud enough whereas my alpine amp and subs make decent noise but not decent sound?? Damn it!!!!
