IH8PORK, I must say that that surprises me. I would have thought that an Alpine amp and sub would sound far louder AND better than the stock sub in the T - the stockie really is a crappy piece of gear. :pinch:

On another note, and I hope I can say this here (mods, apologies in advance if I've broken yet another rule - feel free to modify this post as necessary! :spoton: ), I ended up with two Focal 11" subs (about the best sounding sub you'll hear) and will end up selling one in the near future. I was gonna just put it up on eBay, but given the interest here I may stick in the Market section first to give fellow members an early opportunity if anybody's keen...

Yep suprises me too bugster. Hopefully between nang3, XXXr6T, and myself we can sort the sub situation out in the future and make sure they sound good!!!

I like the sound of nang3 idea!!!! should be good to see how his sounds off the standard deck. Pretty keen to hear others.

With the difference in audio sounds you are dealing with several factors. The obvious of course being that the signal you derive off the rear speakers isn't by any means clean and the line level converter is having to do a lot of clipping to get the signal down. The only way you would get a better sound is by using an active device which re-creates the signal before it is fed to the amp. This would be way too expensive and you might as well install a deck into the tissue box space.

The second reason is all that sound deadening built into the rear seats. It is designed to reduce a lot of road/exhaust/DIFF CLUNK noise from the rear of the car getting into the cabin. I reckon when I put the seat back down it makes it 40 - 50% louder bass wise. The exact same setup used to be in my starion which was a hatch so pretty much no muffling from rear to front, it used to make my hair vibrate on my head. Now it is hard to get it to punch the lungs at all... only with the seat down is it noticible bass.

I would like to work on a few things with the boot to see if there is a noticible difference in the various setups. Things like custom shape sub-boxes, infinite baffle subs, different directions etc etc... It just takes a bit of time and effort. Maybe if you wanna come round one weekend IH8PORK we could play around with some MDF and a jig-saw! :msm:

I'm very curious to see what we can come up with.

yeh I think il be installing a new headunit and rewire the whole car pretty much - and just use the factory display for climate control etc and as the display if I end up getting a dvd player... But yeh il have all the audio coming from the new head unit, seeing as quite a few people now have said the factory headunit already applies some kind of DSP/EQ to the source internally.. which is why it doesnt sound that good running through aftermarket amps etc..

When I spoke to my regular installer over the phone, I told him about putting a new deck where the tissue box is and his words were "yeh it will fit but you'll have to carve the *beep* out of the dash" ... is this true, to me it looks as though there is plenty of room but he would know more than me unless he's thinking of a different car???? either way im going to see him tomorrow to work out how to fit the subs while still having access to the spare wheel so il get him to check it out....

I have seen a couple of installs, I would ask around to see the people who have done it. It does look pretty neat but looks silly with a volume control you can't use...

Yeah I know a guy who is a car audio genius. He's not your average audio clown. I have not spoken to him yet about my T, but I have heard he has worked on these before and hooked up all kinds of stuff. What this guy can do to a car is nearly unbelievable. Ive seen him make an entire dash for an old Expensive Daewoo ute. He spent ages making it and it cost the guy (customer) close to 10 grand, but you had to see it to believe it. Anyway there are only 2 people I would let touch my audio system.......this genius and myself. If anyway is interested PM me and ill send you his details. He works for Top End Car Audio and does alot of custom work. He fixed my old car anyway, and did a $hit load better job than car stereo city with alarm and central etc.
