Well I own a BA XR6T with Premium sound and it has the piddly 8" sub. In my project car I currently have a 2 channel amp and a 12" JL sub in an enclosiure and am curious how hard would it be to disconnect the standard sub(in the XR) and wire in the amp/subwoofer I have from other car and get it to work properly with stereo?

I can give you atep by step instructions of how I did it if you want. Using line level converters of the standard head unit. I too have a T with premium. Word of warning though, dodnt expect it to sound as good as when it ran off an aftermarket head unit.

I just want bass which doesn't distort when turned up, currently the 8" in the car just isn't up to scratch and is pretty dissapointing.. esp when it comes to dance music :/

Yeah, half the problem is that the damn thing's a free-to-air type sub, absolute sh1t quality too. I'm in the process of upgrading mine too, will be doing the front splits at the same time. My main constraint is that, with two kids, I need all the boot space I can get. So I needed a new sub that would a) fit under the parcel shelf (and with only about 30cm in height there, there ain't too many pre-fab boxes that fit) and b) would be easily removeable.

I've found a box that will fit and will be sticking a 10" Focal sub in it. But yes, speakers will need to use line level converters to be hooked up to aftermarket amps, etc, and won't sound as good as if they were teamed up to an aftermarket head unit. But hey, beggars can't be choosers...

Yeah dont you love that loud scary popping sound!!! Basically you need to use line level converters from the rear apeakers. I used an Alpine line level converter. Ill give you a quick run down and hopefully others will add to mine.

The line level converter had 4 wires coming off (2x positive 2x negative). Connect one set of positive and negative to each rear speaker. I did this by obviously cutting the speaker wire and adding in some more wire via little joiners to extend the wire to work with. you will have to add the wire for the line level converter in such a way that you can plug the standard speaker connection back in. Obviously do this for both sides (ie left = passenger, right = drivers side if I remember correctly).

Disconnect the standard sub and bash it with a hammer, continue bashing it cos you never want to listen to the piece of $hit again.

I ran a seperate power cable (8 gauge) from the battery to the rear. I did this by putting the wire through a rubber grommet under the passenger side of the dash/firewall. I put a fuse just near the grommet because I use red wire to the rear and brown/black earth (still 8 gauge) through the engine bay so the wire doesnt stand out like dogs balls.

I ran a remote wire from behind the cigarette lighter to the rear (as I knew this would work and is easy to get to!!) you could probably use a wire off the standard amp but I didnt work this out!!!

So the remote wire from the cigarette lighter and from the alpine line level converter connect to the amp. Ground the amp and the line level converter to the same point.

Also make sure you connect the subs to the right side of your sub box!! I have two 12's that are bridged and connected the sub wire to the wrong end and seriously spent about 30 minutes trying to work out why it was not working!!!!

to get to the speakers and standard sub is easy, just take out the white clips under the boot roof. Also you can remove the standard amp on the passenger side of the boot (against the panel) and mount your new amp there pretty easily. that way everything looks factory except for a sub wire hanging out, which you will tuck away when going for a service.

this was quick but hope it makes sense. I can take photos but wont post till monday probably? Cheers and good luck.. XXXR6 Steve gave me the advice I just passed on......just in case there is copyright laws!!!!

I'm the proud owner of a 2003 xr8, however, I purchased this car second hand, and it came without the premium sound package.

I've been looking for someone to install an amp/sub package in my car for a while, and haven't found anyone who has worked on a BA before.

In short, I don't trust someone who doesnt know what they're doing with my baby. Can someone tell me if it's possible to install an aftermarket amp/sub package and if so, how they did ?

XR8OWNER where do you live?

I too have standard sound and YES IT CAN BE DONE.

Simply speaking you need to hook up something like a FUSION FX-45

Indash Crossover/equalizer/line driver to aftermarket amp/sub package and

BOOGEY TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT.
