[quote name='XR6TU' date='Sep 23 2005, 09:09 AM']The Uniden UH-075 5watt sounds good.

How bad is the Uniden UH-044XR 2watt?  It would still be more superior to those cheap and nasty ones surely.  lol, has the right initials though.

I've used the UH-044 on previous cruises (including Snowy Mountains), works just fine. :spoton:

I have got a waterproof handheld Uniden one, not sure of the model number but it is couple of years old now but works pretty well. Do you know if they are any good cro?

Find out the model number and I'll let you know.

Is it a massive unit? Possibly UH-050, UH-052? They are 5watt units and work a treat?

The new UH-075 5watter is a smaller unit.

Another quick Q...

Is there a type of aerial you can get where you don't have to have a big ugly aerial hanging off you car? Like a window mounted one or something?

I know it won't be as good as one of the proper ones, but it couldn't be any worse than the little aerial on the hand held units could it???

Thanks

Chris :spoton:

Sure has Anni.
Can do it again though.

There is a glass mount aerial available. RFI Industries and GME make them.
It comes with two different aerials which can be changed easily (simple unscrew and screw back on).
The first aerial is a unity gain which is exactly what the handhelds have. This aerial is small and looks just like a mobile phone aerial.
The other one which is bigger is a 3db aerial. Just chuck it on for cruises and you'll be fine.
Lord Cyric has one of these on his car, I'm very suprised at how far away I can hear him. Obviously it's not as good as a 6db aerial in most conditions, but still a very decent setup.

What do these go for as I already have a 5w UHF/AM uniden CB from my old car. I just didn't want the big aerial...

Thanks
