So the SELF-LEARNING PCM,

Has all its previous stored data erased to enable the vehicle to re-adjust whatever parameters it has to to allow for the new fuel.

I FINK?

So for example say if I using Mobile 98 and wanted to try out Boost98

I should disconnect the battery so the PCM can adjust to parameters

that been allowed adjust. so is this a reason why when converting to a differnt RON or what ever you cant really tell the differnce becuase the PCM hasnt adjusted it self or been erased?

but if disconnecting the battery it sholud change?

HEY MATE,

The difference between disconnecting and not disconnecting is simply the time it takes for the Carputer to detect the new fuel.

Disconnecting the battery, will allow the car to simply learn a new fuel without having to modify from a pre-learnt fuel table, which could take anywhere up to 1-2 tanks of fuel. See for yourself and may the Gronk be with you.

Caltex Vortex for me with the occasional BP Ultimate.

The servo is on the corner and I drive past almost everyday. It's busy so stock is turned over quickly, the price is best in area, I get 4c Woolies discount and also have shares in Woolies and Caltex (to ease the pain). So it all makes sense to me.

As for performance well I wouldn't really know although I did suspect that she didn't like Shell.

Hey,

I know Octane rating has been discussed before but that was more for octane booster.

What I'm wondering is lately I have been running the United 95% Ron ethernol Fuel in my XR6T.

Runs great I get easy another 50km to the tank and it's slightly better for the big old earth.

What I'm asking is ethernol fuel bad for the 6T's??

and

What are fuels are ppl using that they are getting more km's from than using the standard unleaded 915 ron (if anyone would use normal petrol).ie optimax etc.???

I have heard optimax is real bad for engines as it has heaps of solvents included and burns harsh.

Thanks for your time... :violin: RiTzY

PS Woohoo waiting on my flash tuner.

I have been using the BOOST 98 united fuel for the last 3 months. It's a hell of alot cheaper, and the car runs a hell of alot better.

I question your fuel economy figures though. I have lost about 20-30kms a tank since I started using it, but the price more than offsets that.

Example on Sunday the Shell 700 mtrs from my house had standard unleaded at 129.9c/pl. Optimax was 139.9c/pl. United 3kms down the road had standard unleaded for 127.5c/pl, unleaded plus ( standard 91 with 5% ethenol ) for 121.9c/pl and BOOST 98 for 127.9c/pl.

The other thing is, I have a tune for the drags, and it needs occy booster, or it pings. Running the BOOST 98 and this tune, there is no ping whatsoever! +1 for the extra octane and oxygen that ethenol brings to the table. I beleive the only issue is, don't leave it sitting in the tank if you go away. Use it all and put some standard fuel in it.

See you learn something everyday..

I didn't realise the Boost 98 had ethernol too.

After you posted I checked there website and obviously your right.

Plus ULP (95) http://www.unitedpetroleum.com.au/index.asp?pgID=66

Boost 98 http://www.unitedpetroleum.com.au/index.asp?pgID=65

For the economy I do get around 30-50km more as I spend a bit of time on freeway to get to city. I am a guy and do change amounts to make stories sound better. :violin:

Obviously on freeway hard to hit boost and still keep licence.

What you get out of tank.. I get 400-450 for normal with freeway and easy 100km less for local driving.

Whats normal.

Here is a website to check your car can handle it. http://www.fcai.com.au/ethanol.php/2007/05/00000005.html

My wife drives to and from Bendigo. From our driveway to our house in Bendigo, it's 170km 1 way. She can do the return trip and and a little more during the week in Bendigo. House in Bendigo is only 8 kms from her work, and is all straight down the one road. Average we are getting 400kms to the tank. But in saying that, I filled up the other week, and Fatz drove my car for 3 odd hours around Melbourne, and he was up her nearly always. We dropped over 1.2 tank in that time! :welcome2:
