Removing The Standard Stereo - Can It Be Done?

Ive noticed that people who have installed aftermarket head units such as screens have installed them below the standard stereo and climate control in front of the gear stick.

is it possible to remove the standard stereo and fit an after market unit in its place? if the plastic trimming can come off easily and is not attached to the stereo or fan/temp controls then fibreglassing a custom centre console isnt a huge problem. it could be made to fit in lace of the original item leaving a standard din size whole to fit a new deck? does anyone know if this is possible or is every attached as one whole unit??

Why dont you upgrade to a premium sound, will make a big difference in the sound quality.....then use high to low convertors to install an amp.....it can actually be done. from single cd to 6indash cd player...also u can upgrade from a low screen to a TFT colored screen without cutting or butchering your ICC unit, where u can connect dvd,sat nav, etc....

Cheers

Just as a side issue, what's with the warning on the centre console trim, under the triangular removable panel (same as the FPV gauges panel?)

There's a warning statement adjacent the top screw fitting......

Do NOT drop.

Discard if turned upside down.

or words to tha effect.......

anyone know WTF that's about?

I believe all the fluid drains from the screen or something important falls out and renders the guts of the thing useless.... :spoton:

Its mainly only if you have a sixindash, cause if you turn upside down the cd mechanism might drop. never seen it happening. we pull them apart every day not a major concern

There's a guy that integrates Mac pcs into the climate control through an integration unit and uses a full colour screen do you have a computer in your car basically.

But if your looking to upgrade a stereo, best best is a good head unit in the tissue shelf. Added bonus you

Build your stereo from scratch and don't use all the useless bits of tiny copper they call speaker cable!
