Guest newl Guests Posted 17/09/05 03:15 AM Share Posted 17/09/05 03:15 AM What real performance gain could one expect (if any ) to obtain by installing an aftermarket blow off valve versus keeping the factory unit? Or is this all about style points?

Goobz Member 746 Member For: 20y 4m 10d Location: Sutherland Shire, Sydney Posted 20/09/05 09:15 PM Share Posted 20/09/05 09:15 PM The loud flutter that you hear on alot of jap cars, T's etc. is from not having a BOV at all. It is called compressor surge where the air hits the closed throttle butterfly, and bounces back the wrong way through the compressor because there is no bov to release it. A few people say this is bad, and it probably isn't the best for the long life of your turbo, but from what I've read these are pretty strong turbo's. It would probably be worse on a manual than an auto though. I ran mine like this for around 2-3 months with no probs. I also have about 6 mates with high performance turbo cars that do not run them either with no probs. To do it with a factory T set up, just pull the small sense line off the top of the factory bov, kink it over and wrap a cable tie around it to stop any boost leaking out. To make it as loud as possible you need to have the shortest possible plumbing on the inlet of the turbo. The factory plumbing is pretty long so it muffles it a fair bit. The 2nd CAI mod + hiflow filter helps a bit.Chris
