Had my car serviced at 60,000k's about 3 weeks ago which included replacement of front pads and machining of discs. Friday of last week was applying the brakes and found my foot going all the way to the floor. (Scared the crap out of me).

Drove the rest of the way home (slowly), and once I got home checked the brake fluid resevoir under the bonnet......GONNNNEEEE !!!!!!

Rang Ford Roadside Assistance on Saturday morning and they sent out an NRMA car who advised that once brakes are involved, the only thing they are allowed to do is arrange for a tow to your local dealer.

Of course not much point dong that on a Saturday.

Rang again on Monday morning and requested a tow to the dealer. Truck arrived within about 40mins and I said my goodbyes and then decided "time to ring the dealer and say.....NOT HAPPY JAN !"

Spoke to the dealer, Peter Warren Smithfield, and told them what had happened and advised that the car had been serviced by them less than 3 weeks prior.....including brake work. I also advised that I had to go to Tuggerah in the evening for a job and would need the car available by 2:00pm for pick-up. Dealer advised they would look at the car as soon as it arrived.

- Within 45mins, Dealer rang to say that the car had arrived and was being looked at immediately.

- Not long after, Dealer rang and advised that it was a blown hose at the left rear wheel and was unrelated to previous work performed. They had also spoken with Ford Melbourne who requested that the hose be sent to them for further analysis....in case this problem occured on other vehicles in the future. Obviously the repair would be covered under warranty and they had a replacement hose in stock.

- At 1:00pm Dealer rang and advised all was completed and vehicle was ready to be picked up.

I could not have asked for any more than what they did (unlike the dealer I used to take my car to for servicing.....closely related). Therefore, a big thanks to Peter Warren Smithfield (James Hodder)....you've got me for a while yet. :spoton:

Hi

Had a similar experience when I was at 30000Km's. But I was more lucky I must of had a air bubble in my lines. Once I pumped the brake a few times it was okay again. But I was getting brake shutter after that and needed to get the disc machined again .

Driving home Thursday night and suddenly lost brake pressure.

Once I got home I checked under the car and noticed fluid all on the inside of back rear wheel.....looks like another "blown hose"....this time at 79,800km's.

Arranged for tow to the dealer yesterday and spoke to the Service Dept. They confirmed that it was another blown hose. This makes 2 blown hoses at the rear in a six month period.

Conversation went something like this :

"So, can I assume that now that both rear hoses have failed, you will be replacing the two front hoses ?"

"No....only if they are faulty"

"Can you understand my concern that my brakes have failed twice within a six month period ?"

"Yes"

"OK, if you are not prepared to change the front hoses, can you please make a note on the paperwork that I requested they be changed and that you refused ?"

"No, we won't be doing that"

"So, if I end up under a truck....that's my problem"

"If you want the hoses changed we can...but it won't be covered under warranty so you will have to pay. I've only had one other car come back with a blown hose and haven't seen him since"

"That's cause he's probably stuck under a truck somewhere !!!!!!"

Anyway....car was returned yesterday with rear hose replaced.

Yep...thanks FORD for your concern.

When I was cleaning under my car last weekend I noticed that the rear brake hoses looked very exposed and mine were discoloured due to road debris etc.

I was also surprised at how much road materials I removed from the uspensions areas both front and back!

Have you checked for any abrasion on the hose - is it rubbing somewhere as the suspension moves.

After fitting new brakes all round on my car I checked the hoses about a month after and noticed the left hand rear was not positioned correctly and was fouling on a section of metal flange of the inner guard panel. Undid it and moved it a little - there isn't much room for adjustment but was just enough to get it clear. Otherwise some cable ties would have come into effect.

In any event I reckon a LETTER to FoMoCo is in order - brakes are THE #1 SAFETY item and I think Ford should give you a direct WRITTEN response as to how two hoses can blow in six months. DO IT NOW - you won't be able to after they pull you out from under that truck!

PS I just remembered something else about the left rear brake hose - there are two different ones I believe (sedan and ute?) and the wrong one was sent to me the first time I had mine replaced - worth getting Big Mick to check it out for you to see if the right part number has been used - even go as far as looking at another car because it has been known to happen that the wrong part can be put in the correctly numbered packaging. So take no notice of the number on the packaging (or even on the hose itself) - check out another car I reckon.
