Another full tank of Optimax used.

This time it was on a trip to Melbourne and return.

A similar trip on the 8/08/05 and some home driving around used 10.4577 lt/100klm.

This trip with Vaporate on the 11/10/05 and some home driving around used 10.3586 lt/100klm.

Nowhere near the claimed fuel savings.

The next thing I am going to try is to use std ULP. With ULP they say I should achieve the same economy as I do with Optimax, and with no loss of power.

The full refund if not happy is looking good.

Here's hoping.

Has anyone tried the turbonator? The votex block? For 100 bucks it might be worth a look at, a few guys should pitch in (also a money back guarantee) and have 2 or 3 running for the next month or so, driving exactly the same as normal.

I'm afraid this sounds more of a gimmic than usefull. By creating a swirl after the air filter then that same air has to travel accross the engine bay through the intercooler then back accross the engine bay agian. What has happened to any swirl that was present??

Quote from the web site.

The Turbonator is a non-moving vortex generator that goes inside your air intake hose, right after your air filter. The Turbonator's airflow dynamic produces a swirling, fast-burn effect in the combustion chamber.

Lawsy ,

You should be ashamed of yourself thinking that it might work.

The only thing it will do is lighten your wallet and restrict air flow.

OK the Vaporate thread grows again.

Today after the 4 weeks of using the Vaporate device I contacted Vaporate to discuss the "100% refund if your not satisfied."

The person I spoke to asked a few questions and took my details. When the Q of what type of fuel do you use was asked, I said premium (Optimax). Well that's the problem he said.

You should have been told by the installer to use std ULP instead. ULP will give you better fuel consumption than PULP due to the differences in density. As ULP will burn better you will not loose any power, in fact you may gain a few KW.

I thought well I will have to give this a try, or they may not honour the refund. I went to the local installer and told him what had been said. I then asked him to Dyno the car as it is now with the Optimax which he did for free.

Not many XR Turbo's have been done as test cars.

So in a few weeks when the car has settled into ULP I will get it a Dyno again for free and be able to report back to the forum on the fuel saved and the power gain/loss?????

Here's hoping,

Colin

Here goes the Vaporate thread.

As you may have read I haven't seen any improvement in fuel economy since Vaporate was fitted.

The manufacturers were quite surprised that NO savings were made. They stood 100% behind their product in offering a full refund. What they did ask was for me to have a full exhaust gas analysis using scan tool, just to check the vehicle compter and O2 sensor were working correctly. This was organised for next week at their expence.

About 10 days ago when I selected "D" the engine went into a rough idle so I turned it off. Started ok and ran ok. Yesterday slowed at traffic lights and it nearly stalled. Last night selected "R" started backing out the driveway then a sudden surge of power and had to brake. Selected "N" wouldn't idle, switched off, restarted and ran ok.

Today I took the car to the dealer to get the boot rust repaired, and told him what had happened. They checked the error codes which told them it was a faulty throttle position sender. This has been replaced, and dealer said thie would cause poor fuel economy. The current tank is the worse I have had in 18 months.

I contacted Vaporate who said that this fault would stop the computer from operating correctly. I then offered to cancel the scan tool and test a couple more tank fulls over the Christmas period then get back to them.

So that's where it all sits now. They still firmly believe in thier product and I am willing to give then the benifit of the doubt by trying a couple more tanks over Christmas.
