Could this be a new craze? A bunch of LPG sucking turbos?

I would think that with the right LPG converstion, and a well tuned Edt, we'll see some fairly quick T's running around. Low end torque with massive timing advance is something I've heard LPG is famous for...

Maybe PM Goldie if he doesnt reply back in this thread. He has fitted kits to Falcons he said, I am sure he can recommend some quality kits.

Lawsy, I know exactly what you mean with LPG. A friend of mine has a SR20DET swap in a Datto 1600 running LPG. His engine mods and turbo compared to a simular set up on a non LPG datto is amazing with the difference in power!

LPG a XR6T and we really would have a Turbo Taxi :roll:

No doubt, but you would need direct injection, most of the quick lpg turbos in Australia are a draw through carbi set up. But as an example there is an XF in Melb with a straight lpg turbo setup running 10's.

My father has been an LPG installer in motor vehicles, forklifts, plants, etc for more than 30 years, and I was talking to him just the other day about this topic. He informed me, that he will shortly be receiving two of the first direct injection LPG kits to suit NA BA Falcons for install on two trial vehicles.

The kits are Impco commercial quality kits, which come with dual mode (LPG and petrol) injectors, a plug-in ECU interupter (ie aka interceptor) with a loom which plugs in between the factory Black Oak ECU and the factory loom. The kits are about $3000.

For those of you in the know, all previous LPG install kits (including Ford factory LPG) use a mixer (ie like an LPG carby) which adds a fuel/air mixture before the throttle body and fills the plenum. The disadvantage of this is reduced efficiency, plenum backfire (aka blow airboxes), slow/hard starting and icing. This translates to poorer fuel economy and reduced power in a direct comparison to petrol.

The new system is promising to eliminate all of these problems as the gas is fed to the injector as liquid and the vapour conversion large occurs in the cylinder (if the injectors are placed in close proximity to the valves, like the BA Falcon). LPG has a much better octane rating and the latent heat of vapourisation means intake temps are consistantly low. Preliminary testing has showed improvement in economy (or as a minimum equal to petrol), and the potential for at least 10% improvement in engine torque and the ability to introduce much more low RPM advance timing. These new kits are dual fuel. ie not dedicated gas, so you can have you cake and eat it too. The injectors are based on factory style injectors with extra fuel ports for LPG.

All of the development has been based around NA cars (that I aware of), but the potential is there for Turbos. Direct Injection gas also reduces the need for intercooling as well.

Next time I talk with him, I'll try to find out how it pans out.

As has been mentioned there is injection kits coming out I have been fortune enough to fit the toyota backed hiace kits that are injected system.

The same suppleir is just starting to fit up ba falcons with the same system it is looking great.

I believe that this kit could be fitted to the turbo.

Although the new laws regarding adr laws that apply to lpg emmsions would proply reqiure the kit to be fully certified before it could be fitted.

Hey guys I know this has horse has been flogged in the past but I need help here too. I have looked every where on the net and I am getting brick walls every where :gooff: I really want to find someone who may have a system I have tried to PM some people here with no reply. I am very interested even as a test ute.

A colleague of mine fitted a fully programable Gas Vapour injection system to his T last weekend, the only drawback with it was the Injection nozzles only support 33KW per cylinder.

His T normally runs 320RWKW, but is just installing the Gas for economy to drive it to and from his workshop, and these gas vapour systems are almost unoticable on switchover, so if he needs some grunt it is just a matter of pressing the switchover button to petrol.

The end user price I think would be over 3K fitted.

LPG is supposedly rated at 104 RON  :msm: ,  will this help with 1/4 mile times  :auto:  :3gears:

true about 114 ron but the btu (heat produced) is 10% lower

the boiling point of lpg is -42deg c making it one of the best refridgerants

the fact its a gas means no atomisation problems

all making for a better fuel!!!!
