I was at my local Mitsubishi dealers today to look at replacing one of my fleet cars and the dealer principal came up to me and said " Mal the new Evo9 has been released"

They remembered that I would not get the Evo8 as they had the grey imported green compliance plate, but the 9 has a silver plate and the MIVEC and 6 speed.

Now I am torn between getting a Evo or keeping the T. I know that most of you will say keep the T, but I have not been happy with the car since I got it. While it is a quick weapon and nice to drive, I miss the point and shoot type of car. I have had several Mitsubishi AWD Turbo's and enjoyed their size and the AWD.

The specs are HERE

and they look like a lot of fun.

So what do you think ?

My wife says that if I can get out of the T without loosing to much money, I can get it. I do not think I will be getting $250k in the next 3 years to get a new M5, so this is a good inbetween car with a 5year bumper to bumper warranty and a 10 year driveline warranty.

Any car that is is used as a base in WRC gets these one's :spoton: from me!

The only downer is: it is a lot of $$$ for not a great deal of metal. Id buy a STI first, simply because you get more metal for your money. In reality, its a Lancer on steriods. I dunno how much base line Lancer's cost, but id be guessing its under 30K.

If it's what you want, go for it. Just don't become a stranger and leave this great place

I'd love to give one a go.

They are an awesome car with lots of great features.

I guess it depends on what you want from a daily driver and how much money you willing to spend on it.

But they do have a great warranty Especially the 10 year driveline warranty. Very good for AWD.

7 grand lanches anyone?

I know a guy who pays $4k a year for E8 insurance.

It's the only downside to an (for me) easy decision.

Evo IX, yep, I'd do it..

Prolly cost 30 to changeover though, if the T was bought new.

Evo's are a car that looks like its goin 100mph standing still, with out having ever driven either I would take it over the Sti, just for sheer horn value, I see so many Sti's now that an Evo really sticks out!

GO FOR IT !!!! :kissmy:

The insurance is $1400 as I am rating 1 and over 30.

The changeover cost may be the deal killer as I bought a optioned up T 15 months ago ($60k+), but its a company car, so I can play around with leasing etc.

In regards to the STI, it is still based on the poverty pack Impresa GX, but the EVO9 is not really based on the base lanser as it has alloy roof, bonnet and guards as well as having a totally different chassis. I think the only similarities is the glass and carpet.

They have also a long list of options for the car to make it go harder. Apparently you will be able to get chips/handeling pack/and other downforce options. They have the vortex generators, front winglets and gurney flaps.

Here is a list of options:

Options

The options available for Lancer Evolution IX are: • Metallic / pearlescent paint $300

• Performance Pack $3,700

Bilstein Shock Absorbers

BBS forged alloy wheels

Accessories

A range of accessories are available to allow owners to personalise their own car. They are:

• Front corner extensions (painted dark grey) $434.50

• Vortex generator (body coloured) for rear window $275.00

• Rear spoiler extension (dark grey) $110.00

• 3-point strut tower truss $610.50

• Rear strut tower brace $473.00

• Door scuff plate covers $110.00

• ‘Ralliart’ accent panel for engine bay $341.00

• Earthing cables $214.50

• Engine Hood fin panel $319.00

• Carbon print HVAC accent panel $225.50

• Carbon print power window switch panels $324.50

• Carbon print and silver gear shift knob $231.00

• Carbon print and silver handbrake lever $313.50

• Carbon print instrument cluster surround $159.50

• Alloy foot rest (to match standard alloy pedals) $71.50

• Sunglass holder $82.50

• No Smoker box $16.50

• ‘Ralliart’ carpet mats $110.00

Pricing

Pricing has been set at $56,789.

They have not released the go fast pricing yet, but I am sure it will be just as costly, but it is better than paying the $80k they wanted for the EVO TME 6.5 :kissmy:

Tough choice Mal. l will be buying in April next year and it ill be between the new Sti, E9, F6, GT-P or Clubsport with DP.

If the Sti is 2.5lt then it will be a front runner. The Evo appeals but l still dont like the interior and are not not completely sold on the looks of it either. What is the difference with the Evo chassis, that is a major change for one model?

l am impressed with the pricing, its dropped substantially over the past few years and is great value now. Have you driven one?
