Ten days have passed and the new phoon is coming up on two thousand kms and, as family and friends predicted, I got booked within the first week of ownership. Had I been in the work vehicle, the cop probably wouldn't have bothered giving chase........they attract all types these cars!

As far as a running report goes, I'd pretty much reiterate the report F6_Rapid submitted a few weeks back.....lots of brake dust, difficulty in mastering the clutch (getting better though), gearbox getting smoother, etc.

The first 900 odd kms was primarily spent around town with some good blasts here and there. Everything nice and tight like a new car should be. Acceleration is still very impressive. Particularly like cruising off from the lights in first and then planting it, resulting in traction breaking, neck breaking acceleration leaving you scrambling for second. :spoton:

Just returned from a 900+ km round trip during which I noticed the damn driveline lash kicking in. Primarily occurs when travelling slowly through round-abouts where you're coasting a little and then ease the gas back on. This really p*sses me off! Although, from reading these forums I had sort of expected some form of lash, I didn't think it would be as prevalent as it is. Had some driveline lash experience in an EF a few years back, but being auto it wasn't as noticable. Definitely more annoying in a manual. Has anyone had this fixed by their dealer? Was it successful?

I reckon they could probably program some of this out in the engine control. Seems that the fly-by-wire throttle kicks in a little quick in some situations where you only want a very slow progressive opening. Funny thing is that it is very difficult to conciously make it do it!

All in all, I'm still absolutely stoked with the car. Love the look, love the interior, love the performance, love the handling, love the turbo whistle and wastegate sound as you scream past a fellow motorist........still a very happy camper.

On a side note.......something my dealer said during delivery has been playing on my mind. Pretty sure he's confused, but someone here should know. He said that the engine management on these vehicles is adaptive. They are supposed to adapt to your driving style. He was making the point that if you drive it hard, it will adjust and go better in the long run. If you take it easy all the time it will take a long time to adapt back to performance driving. I'm pretty sure that he's getting mixed up with some auto transmissions........can anyone confirm?

Great to hear of your grin-inducing toy :spit:

As far as the adaptive bit he either got confused with the auto or was referring to running it in. The theory is that if you “drive it like you stole it” from day one you will be rewarded with a more responsive engine in the long run. This is also the general consensus on here, but it sounds like you are not babying it around in any case. :spit:

Trent.

I think I read something about this being part of the new BF series, auto or manual. Some sort of rating system out of 100 (or was it 200). Lots of hard acceleration, hard cornering etc. your rating goes up and the engine management system will operate things to suit your style. Maybe the BA Phoon was a trial run of this??
