I guess it's kinda unpractical driving like a race car every time you drive, the thing with the self learning is if you want it to make itself more economical then leave it on and if you want it to stay exactly as you tuned it then turn it off. I didnt have any closed loop control on my last car and it was fine, I just needed to give it a burn every now and then to make sure there wasnt too much carbon build up etc. Might be wise also to service it more regularly. I Serviced the starion quite frequently and even gave the throttlebody a good clean to get all the carbon crap out. It had a Haltech E6K which had it's own "self learning" capability in that it had closed loop control to level out the fuel maps.
