The reason why I ask is that I have heard of people running edits on their crapadoors have experienced issues with their tunes altering due to the self learning capabilities of the modern ECU's and for the need to have regular touch ups to keep their cars running in a good state of tune. And I was just wondering if the tunes in the Ford edit were doing the same.macka Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/19633-edit-and-self-learning-pcm/ Share on other sites

Obviously you notice the increased power when the edit first goes in, but I am used to mine now and it doesnt feel so quick anymore. So did the tuners recommend a time span between tune check ups?macka Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/19633-edit-and-self-learning-pcm/#findComment-286495 Share on other sites

Would'nt the rate of engine wear and tear be greater. Is'nt this the whole point behind the self learning ability to be able to change engine parameters to the condition of the engine.I guess what I'm trying to ask is. Would it be safe to keep loading a custom tuned edit that was done at 3000 km into an engine that has clocked up 70,000km or more? The condition of the engine would have to be worse. So how long should you wait before you have your tunes touched up to make sure everthing is OK?macka Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/19633-edit-and-self-learning-pcm/#findComment-286650 Share on other sites
cobrav8 Member 1,969 Member For: 20y 24d Gender: Male Location: New Zealand Posted 24/08/05 09:38 PM Share Posted 24/08/05 09:38 PM I think you might be giving the self learning ability a bit more credit that it is due.It is likely to learn how you drive (if anything) so that it adjusts shift points etc. I doubt that it would change over time to protect itself.
