Hi guy's just after some feedback from members who have had the edit tunes now since they first arrived 9 months ago.

With the self learning capability I was wondering if anyone has noticed any change in the engines performance.

The reason why I ask is that I have heard of people running edits on their crapadoors have experienced issues with their tunes altering due to the self learning capabilities of the modern ECU's and for the need to have regular touch ups to keep their cars running in a good state of tune.

And I was just wondering if the tunes in the Ford edit were doing the same.

The only thing I have noticed lately Macka is fuel consumption is improving ( if that's possible ) :spoton:

Performance wise, I would say no change from when it was tuned but its hard to gauge. Obviously you notice the increased power when the edit first goes in, but I am used to mine now and it doesnt feel so quick anymore.

Yes Luke, it's surprising how fast you get used to the power.

So did the tuners recommend a time span between tune check ups?

No Macka, they havent. I will ask about that on Tuesday when my car is back at HPF.

Shouldn't a reflash from the SCT programmer delete any changes made by the self learning capabilities???

If it was left on you should only have to reflash the PCM & your car will be like it was when you drove it out from the tuner!

Precisely! :spit:

yes this is true,

But my concern is that with the power level being increased beyond what the engines factory specs recommend, and the fact that people drive these cars pretty hard. Would'nt the rate of engine wear and tear be greater. Is'nt this the whole point behind the self learning ability to be able to change engine parameters to the condition of the engine.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is.

Would it be safe to keep loading a custom tuned edit that was done at 3000 km into an engine that has clocked up 70,000km or more? The condition of the engine would have to be worse.

So how long should you wait before you have your tunes touched up to make sure everthing is OK?

I think you might be giving the self learning ability a bit more credit that it is due.

It is likely to learn how you drive (if anything) so that it adjusts shift points etc. I doubt that it would change over time to protect itself.
