its pretty stupid in Victoria though from what I can see in the act, dangerous/careless driving can be applied to just about ANYTHING you do on the road not just speed...

Take this example if you will, travelling 75 in 80 zone, through round about and left , not slowing down much as you do it, in fact barely touched the brakes...

Cop sees you pulls you over, cant get you on speeding but takes you on for driving in a manner dangerous.

Explanation, did not drive to conditions of the time...

Where is the line drawn, when it is rainin we are expected to adjust our driving to the conditions (same charge if you hit something in the wet ie: keep left sign if your doing 60 in a 60 zone) but when your driving and no traffic, well known road to you, and conditions are favourable, why cant we adjust our driving to those conditions also...

sorry .. just upset ... :gooff::laughing:

Don't you guys get a photo on the infringement notice down there? At the very least it gives me something to admire when I have the displeasure of getting one in the mail!

SIX MONTHS FOR 230 kph!?

why? is it really that dangerous?

I don't think so.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Are you rubbing in those open speed limits again??? Oh no sorry that's right, you live in Perth. Mistaken identity.

Anyone know if it's true that fixed radar speed cameras and mobile radars do not work correctly in the rain -  therefore do not register??

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Was true many years ago when they were either vertically or horizontally polarised radar signals.

Now with circular polarisation and other such magic, rain is not an issue. :stirthepot:

Not really. This has been oversimplified. I have been accused of turning things into legalese ( :stirthepot: ), but unfortunately in this arena, that's the way it is.

If you were simply doing 20km/h over the limit, you would not be charged with driving in a manner dangerous, you would be charged for doing 20km/h over the limit (in the form of a penalty notice most likely). If however you were driving at 70km/h in a 50km/h zone and there was a bunch rallying, placard waving Hoff fanatics on the road, you could be charged with more serious offences, Manner Dangerous at the very least and most likely a conduct endangering life (Despite that, you would also deserve the Order of Australia medal).

I had heard that too that speed cameras didn't work when it was raining but I've seen plenty of them out there and operating on wet days. Mind you, it was raining pretty lightly, not pi$$ing down.

Peter Brock could probably tell you more about polarisation....

LIDAR (Laser) does not work well in the wet due to all the reflections and the fact the cops do not like getting wet.

Radar has not reall issue with normal rain, but if it was really nailing down I think you could get effect.

I bet there are not many drivers over 20 on this forum that have not been over 200km/h on a public road

NSW has stupid driving laws. Did you know if you get done for more than 131km/h in any speed zone, you automaticly loose your license for 1 month.

IT SUCKS

They need to teach drivers not TAX them

I don't think so.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I don't think it's so much the fact that he was doing 230KM/h, it was the fact that he did it on a road which you go get cars (and wildlife) jumping out from either side, and the fact that it' can be a very busy road (It’s the main road between Canberra and Sydney, and part of it is also the main road between Sydney and Melbourne) so he would have been swerving like crazy to avoid hitting anyone… (Probably had to go onto the side of the road a few times…)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think that its ridiculous that he got 6 months jail when scumbag junkies who rob peoples houses get let off with either suspended sentances or fines.
