According to Redbook a 2003 XR6T with auto is valued at:

Ute: $28,200 - 32,400. With average 27,000 - 33,000 kms

Sedan $27,300 - 31,300. With average 40,000 - 50,000 kms

According to Redbook a 2004 XR6T with auto is valued at:

Ute: $29,800 - 34,100. With average 14,000 - 17,000 kms

Sedan $29,400 - 33,600. With average 18,000 - 22,000 kms

Utes have always had better resale than sedans. And their $5k cheaper to buy in the first place!

I'm happy with the resale values. After 2 years my utes only dropped about $10k in value.

Not according to Glass' Guide thru Carpoint where 03/04 utes are worth $3000-$6000 less for a private sale than the equivalent sedan

The reason the XR6 turbo, and many euro cars appear to have good resale is because they provide a huge option list that you can't help but pick a few options from. Resale is calculated only on the base price, but in reality very few people buy the base car with no options.

Subaru somehow defy the trend, and have stunning resale (especially the Foresters) while providing no real options. Not quite sure how they achieved this (minimal discounting?), but it is dropping a bit.

I paid 40K onroad for my MY05 WRX 9 months ago and would struggle to get 33K for it. It wasn't long ago you could get 33K for a 3 year old one.

I didn't think re-sale values on the XRT dropped through the floor like most do, and the insurance value has remained way up there for me..

I have also heard of some good trade in values..

XR6T's have terrible resale I thought..

even worse are cars like fairmont ghia and fairlanes...

you can buy fairlanes with 20,000km on the for about $32000 for a v8! that's shcoking considering they cost almost as much as a GT.

I am having trouble understanding (maybe I am thick today :spoton:) what you mean here. I would have thought options didn't add much to the resale (unless the buyer particularly wanted those same options))

That is what he is saying.

Basically, because the resale figures don't include options, XR6Ts have an relatively "inflated" resale. FOr example, the base price of a Turbo is about $45K. I sell it after 12 months for $38K. Not too bad. However, how often does someone pay the base price? Not very often. In reality, most people have probably paid comfortably into the $50Ks to get their T. Once that is factored in, getting $38K after 12 months isn't as impressive.

This is not my opinion, this is my interpretation of the post.

I see. So why is this not the same for, say, a Mercedes? The options would be even more expensive.

In fact, the XR6T comes with many goodies over the XT (isn't that the point? ), and there are many, like me, who were happy with minimal upgrades. I only got the premium sound extra.

It doesn't seem to help if the options are built in though. I had a stock standard Fairmont last time, and still got lousy resale (in fact someone else was just saying how the upmarket models were not good resale)

I think, bottom line, there's a rule, a corollary of Murphy's law, that says that, anything I purchase will have minimal resale at the time I need to sell it.

I can see how the maxima is on the sh*t list, I'd also put it in the list for one of the worst looking cars ever built...

(I think Renault deserves number one place in that list however...)

just my opionion...
