WOW. another 2 gears in the autos for FORD service centres to f%$#k up on. They can't even service ya car without breaking something, now they have 2 extra gears to break.

And an extra 5kw to lose.

Since when did any Ford service dept ever touch an auto? - a damn looong time ago I can tell you! They simply send the thing away for any major work.

ANYHOW, it's entirely a moot point because the ZF auto is a completely sealed for life unit. It cannot be touched inside - not even the oil I believe. The only influence anyone can have over this box is via the electronics module. Basically the tune of the box can be adjusted and that's all.

Some of you people are whingers. What would you rather-

6 speed auto, bigger brakes, upgraded engines, small styling changes, better performance and fuel economy

or

New headlights, bumpers and slight panel changes.

Headlights, bumpers and panel changes.

I modify my cars anyway. To add 5 kw to an engine is insulting, especially given the proven power variances between identical stock XR's can be 10-15kw. The 6 speed gearbox is awesome, but it doesn't come for free.

So an extra 30nm, and more power and torque right through the rev range isn't worthwhile then.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

To make me trade in on a BF? No, it isn't.

But if 30Nm and 5kw gets you all warm and fuzzy, go for it. You'll still get slapped by mildly modified T's. Even by us old Piggybackers.

Do you know Geeseman?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

And a mildly modified BF will spank your BA. Peak torque has dropped 500rpm due to the independent cam timing, which was previously only on F6. Should spread the power and torque further through the rev range and result in more rwkw.

As for Geeseman, don't make me laugh.

Maybe your right.

The F6 already runs the independant VCT. Maybe that's where most of that extra torque comes from.

A test drive will be in order I think. Although I wouldn't be rushing out to buy one until it's confirmed they can be modified. I'd reckon Ford has probably made it harder for the aftermarket scene on the BF.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Can't see why the won't be able to be modified, the ECU is the same bar the settings, and the F6 has some pretty awesome results with the edit.

I thought the PCM wiring is different on the BF.

I'm not saying they can't be modified. But the smart money would be to wait and see, just in case.

Big call.

I do agree with this however.

Sealed for life? Whoa. I didnt know this at all. that's amazing. Anyone got any figures for ZF reliability? I'd be interested to see how they stack up. I suppose it wouldnt be sealed if it wasnt bullet proof though.

Yeah its a big call but stock Vs stock a BF should easily take a stock BA. More torque spread further across the rev range should have it accelerating quicker and for longer through the gears. Not to mention that the close ratio ZF will get it and keep it in its power band for longer and probably shift quicker too. Should easily run high 13's, some freak ones could even run mid 13's.
