yeh motor magazine really piss me off. Their times for the typhoon are a joke, they claim a 14 dead for the 1/4 yet turbocorty can pull a 13.2.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Torbocorty had an awesome run, but you must remember the roll out at the drag strip that isnt counted, plus being able to launch alot harder at the track since drag strips are glued.

14.0 - .4 for roll out = 13.6

That only leaves .4 and I am sure a glued track would help for at least half that. expessially in a manual.

By the way, who won bang for your buck this year?:msm::blush:

I know it won. I was trying to stir some people up. The STi is a perfect example of Bang For Your Buck forumla. They exclude all comfort... See what will go the hardest for the $$. Performance car of the year takes into account alot more. Which is why STi doesnt place aswell in it because it lacks alot of the comfort in other cars.

Guys, don't forget that this was a BANG FOR YOUR BUCK article, where they only measure the car's BANG (straight line and corner speeds) for your BUCK (dollar) so yeah, the FPV may be a better overall package, but in this particular test, obviously it didn't have enough bang.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well add $2k for an Edit and a set of adjustable sway bars on the FPV's and the better overall package becomes the BEST overall package

TOO EASY :msm:

And I gotta say while the dunlop's are great for 1/4 mile work they are :fool: around corners :fool:

The only accessory you need for an STi is a mouthguard. Other than their rock hard suspension, they are good. WRP10 is a much better thing.

Yes, but all the cars tested have the same formula.. Clubbie pulls a low/dead 13 by your accounts. Still flogs the foon - track, strip, anywhere??

I've already given my copy of Motor to my Expensive Daewoo mate. The Expensive Daewoo mate that drives a modified T by the way.

Motor's too bloody flip-floppy for my liking nowadays. One minute they sing the praise, the next its all bad. Maybe its just the double thumbs down that got my goat in the latest issue. Disrespect the F6 will ya!

Anyone that bags the F6 is a murken head :nono:

I fully admit that there is no rational thought in my argument, but this being a forum, I reserve the right to get pissed off, and spit my oversize dummy when things dont my (or my teams) way. :ielh:

It was only in reference to turbocortys 13.2 VS Motors 14.0. Not VS Holdens times. Trying to note that nearly every car MOTOR (or wheels) tests will do better at the track for above reason. Also MOTOR and Wheels carry fuel loads where at the strip we all tend to run on a lesser tank etc.

Rollout accounts for a max of 0.4s on slicks running allot of power (read: 12s passes or less). On street rubber, rollout may account for 0.2s if you are lucky. Please get this fact right. turbocorty's time would be at most a 13.4 by any measure. I mighty fine effort.

It doesnt matter what times Motor achieve with the VBox because you cannot expect to achieve the same time regardless, and it's what you do on the day which is affected by weather, track surface, traction, 60ft and driver ability. I've been to Calder so many times and have witnessed 300kw GTS's struggling to break 14 sec and once even saw a standard MY02 WRX struggle to break 15 seconds. The power levels of standard cars vary as well and also the amount of petrol in the car can effect the times by quite a lot.

Sometimesw the times recorded by magazines seems to very fast and sometimes very slow. When I first raced the wrx at Calder it had 25 kw more than standard and it also measured up to 12kw more than most WRX's on APS's dyno yet I struggled to break 14 seconds and only managed a best of 13.75@97mph. Comparing this motor they were suppose to be doing 14.12 standard and achieving the same mph so judging by dyno figures and considering I was doing 1.98 60ft times dumping the clutch at 6500 - 7000rpm because the track surface was so grippy and difficult to get a clean launch. So many factors come into it and when I lastraced at Calder again I had an additional 20 kw's and still having trouble with a good launch because of the bigger wheels, and grippy surface regardless if I was launching at 7000rpm. Also the week before I tested 0-100 with G-tech and was doing consistent 4.9's 0 - 100 but was lauching really hard and smoking the front wheels but at calder I was barely getting a chirp.

Also I'm interested to see the new STI doing 13.7's when it's suppose to have 15kw's less than the 99 model sti which is lighter yet on APS's dyno the latest STI has 145kw's so either Subaru are conservative with the figures they quote or the old STI's were under 190kw's and not actually 206kw.

Did you notice that the XR8 did 13.9 in the BFYB this year which was faster than the T, Typhoon and GT :spoton: . Talk about confusing.

Robbie.
