The VLz at do rule the scene a bit but yes there is a lot of them abd they are cheaper to work on. The XR6T will be the new vl in a few years to come atm just a bit more expensive and not many ppl have been there n done that yet where as the VL scene most ppl know exactly wot to do to make decent power :)

Sorry, this is a lame thread.

The XR6T is lightyears ahead of the VL in every way.  So what if some VLs have been hotted up to perform 10 second quarters.  A quarter mile does not a car make.

Stock VL does a 15.5 quarter mile and hails from 1986.  VLs are now old and sh1t except for the odd show n shine or dragstrip project.

Having bought a VL new(yeah I'm that old)I'd say they were a great engine(Nissan RB30) looking for a decent car to live in.Fair to say that theres plenty of the cruddy old crates running around bending panhard rods and twisting their coke can body shells with lots of grunt but the stock Calais turbo I drove woulnd'nt catch a stock T.

threads like this are always going to be bias to whatever forum it is posted in.

the VLT has been around for almost 20 years, and that is alot of time for development, with some VLT's getting into the high 7 sec bracket, and for a production car with some modifications, that's quite the acheivement, and especially with some VLT's in the 9 sec bracket and still being street driven.

the XR6T has been around for about 3 years, and in that 3 years we have seen very fast development, with T's in the 10 sec bracket, and that's extremely well done for the short amount of time the XR6T has been in production.

I think that in the next few years we will be seeing some amazing modification options for the T, things like stroker kits, bigger turbos, stronger internals and bulletproof transmissions still to come. the VLT has already done all of these, and that times they have gotten are amazing...

with the engine of the XR6T being bigger by a litre, and there being DOHC, im very sure we will see some great times made when the power is put behind the driveline of the T.

no one here can say that VLT's are ugly/crap cars, I think they are the best looking Late model camira that Expensive Daewoo has brought out, especially the calais (in pic shown) with thier popup eyelids and thier streamline shape, it is one of 4 cars that I would love to get hands on and restore/make into a show car.

so yea, we have be a XR6T forum, but we have to give credit where credit is due, Expensive Daewoo got to the turbocharging option first, and they did what I think was a great job.

VLT's may have been around alot longer, but I think we are still yet to see the full potential of the XR6T and when we do, even the Expensive Daewoo fans will have to give credit where its due.

If it wasn't for their weak chassis' the VLT's would be going heaps faster than they already are IMO. That's where the BA will have a huge advantage and has already narrowed the gap despite the VL having a 20 year head start.

All that said, I don't think VLT vs XR6T is a fair comparison.

I also agree that the VL Calias is the best looking Commo ever made.

got to remember everyone that if it wasnt for the Nissan engine powering this thing .. it wont go anywhere ....

VL turbo goes quick cause they can benifit from the know how and parts of the Nissan enthusiasts in a large part ...

Not the first VL ive seen with a Nizpro or Niztoy stickers adorn the back windows :msm: ... ive personally never seen many with HSV stickers :fool:

All the T needs for 7 sec passes is guys with tones of money, heaps of R&D from a good workshop a phyco to drive it :fool:

The world will one day soon be a beautiful place :tease:

Alot of ppl here mention the vlt's having a "20 year headstart" over the xr6t, then go on to point out the rapid redution in the xr6t's times that have been seen on drag strips throughout Australia over a relativly short number of years. What needs to be remembered though that it is the technology available not soley time that leads to better ET times. The tuning techniques available to owners modifying their vl's and xr6s today are far superior to what was available for owners modifying their vlts in the early 1990s, therefore allwoing the xr6ts to strip seconds off qtr mile times faster.

Heres a few pics of some vlts incase anyone else here like them!

the times for the XR6T have been getting faster quicker due to the fact of the engine size, number of cams, and technology that is around now days and that metal forging is at a higher level, so that stronger rods, cams, pistons, valves etc can be made.

I still stand by my statement, VLT's are one tough car, and the VL Calais is not just the best looking Late model camira ever build, but one of the best looking aussie cars ever.
