A "Magic Cat" is $300 with no end plates

Rob

I have a 4 inch magic performance cat on my ute, picked up 17rwkw. Its an alloy substrate core called "Stelite" I think.

No plates, and its a small bodied cat, about the size of a large stubby cooler!

Cost me $300, then about $400 to get the custom pipe work done in order to install it.

Scroll down and check out the 4 inch one - the short stubby one. That magic cat you are referring to has an inlet/outlet of only 3.25inches. This thing is a true 4 inch in/out.

Nizpro say the standard exhaust system is more than adequate upto 300 rwkw and this is when they recommend you change it. From my own experiences I found them to be true and accurate. My car was making over 300 rwkw using the standard cat.

Even APS don't recommend that you change the exhaust till you acheive something near this power level. These two tuning houses have spent more money and time on R&D on these cars than anyone else so I would follow their advise. These cars are'nt like jap engines where you can bolt this and that on, you have to look at the overall package.

I'm not saying it would'nt help, but in the big picture its just one small step. If you want to increase your power put your hard earned into these tried and proven mods first.

Tuning Device

Injectors

Valvesprings

larger Intercooler

Transmittion upgrades

Exhaust mods

Engine Internals for over 330 rwkw

The ute cat on that page looks like a striaght bolt in, has anyone used one? If so what were the results?

Cheers, Steve.

Steve,

Unless you have somekind of tuning method fitted/installed before you fit a bigger cat you car will overboost like crazy and generally be a pig. As I said they are not like jap engines, Ford have gone out of their way with the engine management system to make it hard for backyard mods to work in the same way as jap engines.

macka, there have been NUMEROUS posts on here before by ppl getting upgrades done and their cat being the restriction around 250kw.. dont ask me to quote sum1 off the top of my head but I read quite a few posts about it over time.

I think anything over 260 with stock cat is really pushing it.. fair enough it may flow enough for 300atw, but put a bigger larger CFM flowing cat on and watch the gains!! :spoton:

also anutha option for people on the hunt for TRUE HIGH FLOW cats.. not proclaimed crap like most seem to be!!

I think this is the cat ill end up getting, 3.5' ends. perfect for mating up to the stock exhaust if u just wanna change the cat and maybe do the muffler chop down the track! 534CFM aswell... cant complain about that!
