For those like myself who have spent time overseas, I know first hand being an Australian you must adpat to their culture, otherwise you are segregated for not adpating to their society. I have experienced it and alot of other countries with different cultures have no tolerance to people coming to their country and no adapting to their culture. Why should it be any different here?

Everyone is welcome to share our country and way of life, but must respect why this way of life exists....

I too agree that migrants need to adapt to aussie culture, I was born here so im true blue.. my grandpa though can barely speak english and still has his european accent, but still calls people mate lol..

and thanks for clearing that up for me, because rules shouldnt change for migrants.

I wholeheartedly agree that MultiCulturalism has been the single worst mistake of PostWar Australia.

I am not refering to the end of the White Australia Policy when we 'allowed' alot of non-English speaking 'New Australians' in (Remember that term, I shall return to it soon) to rebuild their lives and start anew after the war, I am referring to the politically correct don't offend anyone bullsh*t that we STILL suffer today.

The deep rooted belief in Australia it seems at the moment is to keep quiet and not say something that may offend somebody lest you be branded a homophobe, a sexist, a racist or some other heinous villian which nowdays seems to be a greater crime than a murderer or gang-rapist. We have lost that spirit of sticking up for ourselves and our beliefs and just take what ever the machine gives us in whatever orifice it desires.

What happened to the revolutionary 'Call a Spade a Spade and a Mate a Mate' psyche that led to the Eureka Stockade, numerous strikes for fairer workers rights, the establishment of government Institutions that allowed cheap Banking, good communication services and Laws that meanta family could survive on the income of a single adult wage?

Post-War Australia saw an influx of many people from war ravaged nations in Europe, willing to make a new start. These people were called New Australians. They knew they were here to make a new start, sure they might once have been Australians, Greeks, Slavs or any manner of man, but NOW they were Australians.

They didn't forget their culture, but they assimilated into ours. We gained food and music and 'heritage' from non-anglo cultures and in return they gained a national heritage so strong that they were be proud to be called Australian. Even today, the proudest Australians I know are third and fourth generation Australian-Greeks and Australian-Italians. (Instead of this politically correct Calabrian-Australian or some other such trite nonsense)

Sorry to wax on, basically my point is that a combination of cultures, rather than Multi-Culturalisim is the answer. Yes, you are allowed to practice the Koran, just as you are allowed to go to Church of England however NO, you can't encourage a hate of Australia, just like an Orange has no right to protest and enourage hate against catholics, or Serbians shouldn't be allowed to practice hate Croatians.
