This is something that really gets my blood boiling... I'm certainly no racist with friends of all nationalities including indonesian, malaysian, indian, south american, european and more that I can't recall now. I respect other cultures but I feel that our Australian culture does not get the same respect in return from some immigrants.

What really irks me is those who come over here with no intention of adopting any part of the Australian way of life, no intention of learning the language,

no intention of mixing with anyone but their own nationality.

In fact I've seen large plots of suburban land snapped up by one or two individuals

and sold off to friends and family only of their own nationality/culture - thus creating a whole suburb of one nationality who only ever keep to themselves and exclude all others.

Politcal correctness has gone too far - how can any person be identified on a licence wearing a niqab (face veil) - what a joke!!

They've even banned the celebration of Xmas in some schools as it may upset minority religious beliefs - another joke!!

If you come to Australia you need to accept our culture even if you don't agree with parts of it - that's the condition of entry. If you don't like it - GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

:spoton: my 5 cents worth

So what if a woman wears her veil on her driver's licence?! Talk about a storm in a teacup. What harm or damage does this cause...no skin off my nose, as long as her face is visible. Come to think of it, devout 1st generation migrant women of all types are the most timid and non-threatening people you'll meet. If you object to something so minor then I wonder if you complain about the skin on your porridge. Crikey.

As for the xmas lights not being displayed at xmas - vote out your local council if they try this on you.

I know if I moved to, say, Bulgaria I would try to learn the language but Id be on this website and nrl.com and smh.com.au along with this one regularly. If there were other Aussies in Bulgaria Id probably hang out with them too.

This thread is yawn material.

I didnt read the full of it, but when I see the part "immigrants not australians must addapt" I agree with that 100%...

I heard of a thing in SA I think? that a muslim woman got her licence or proof of age card, and she wouldnt take her towel thing off her head for the photo, and said that it wasnt part of her religion, which sucks totally, cause she then got special permission to allow her to have her veil on in her picture...

unfknblvble :spoton:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

hey man, not sure if u meant it that way but dont say the religion sucks, im a muslim myself.. and we sont say stuff about christianity or other religions like that.

regardless, I believe that the lady shouldnt have been allowed to get her liscence and if she didnt like the rules, she has the right to go back to her country of origin..

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

he isnt saying the religon sux, hes saying that it sucks the laws can just change because of their religon, which im afraid is not fair. Its simple really, as the opening sentance states "immigrates must adapt" and that is jsut a prime example of how/why they dont adapt. This dosent just go for muslims though so dont take like that jetmir please it goes for everybody. Can you imagine if an american came here and decided that he wants to drive on the right hand side of the road because that's what its like in his old county :spoton: .If ppl dont like the rules leave no-one is forcing you to stay.

Could not agree more. Everyone is welcome, but they must adpat to our culture, that is what makes Australia a desired place of destination. I believe if you threaten that through terrorism or the like, you loose your privilage to stay.

For those like myself who have spent time overseas, I know first hand being an Australian you must adpat to their culture, otherwise you are segregated for not adpating to their society. I have experienced it and alot of other countries with different cultures have no tolerance to people coming to their country and no adapting to their culture. Why should it be any different here?

Everyone is welcome to share our country and way of life, but must respect why this way of life exists....

Cheers

We have to adapt to others countries cultures when in THEIR country. Why can't they adapt to ours? I agree with Cunners, I also have alot of friends from different backgrounds, and they all have adapted to the Aussie culture. But their is a large portion of the poplulation that don't seem to want to budge. But are quite happy to take advantge of the pluses of being an Australian citizen when it suits them. Tht isn't right.
