Hi Guys,

Looking at buying some PC equipment from Hong Kong. The package is 14Kgs and i have been told that it would cost $152USD to get it sent to Australia via courier service EMS or UPS.

Is this normal ? for something of that weight? And do you know of any other means to get it here alot cheaper then that? Possibly even via Sea? Im not in a rush for it but dont really want to spend $152USD when the items cost me $205USD.

Thanks guys :)

Chris,

Seafreight will take 4-6 weeks, courier will be 4-6 days.

It is not a bad price for a heavy parcel.

It cost me $800 to ship 3 boxes (40kg) from Sydney to Adelaide.....overnight air

I bought a sword from china...

the sword cost $1 but packaging and freight was $120... but it was packaged pretty well and that was through ems, I would get stuff sent by ems again if I needed to

Zap, you should have used Express Post. Would have cost 30% of that and been gauranteed overnight or free. l use the service often, its pretty good.

l bought a pce of HiFi kit from HK a few months ago Chris and had it sent insured Post, cost me about US$60 and weighed around 10kg. The price you have been quoted is pretty fair IMO. One advantage l have found with regular post is seemingly less customs hassles.

Mondie,

We do use express post, but a new staff member had sent overnight by mistake and then charged the client the $800 for shipping + the $600 for the 3 monitors we had sold them......client not happy, but I refunded tem and wore the charge.

Honest mistake, but TNT is a ripoff for casual users. We use express post 90% and couriers 10%

You may be hit for import duties and GST as well. :k24t: GST could be another $30 or $40, not sure about the duties, depends on what the item is classified as. Check with freight company if this is included in the price or not.

I take it that the cubic measurements would of been high for it to cost you that!!! I have had 50kg shiped O/N to adelaide cheaper than that!!

Chris are you wanting your consignment airfreighted or via seafreight. Is the price you have been quoted including the GST and duty you will be paying once it goes threw customs?

I frequently have containers shiped over 5000kg approx and it costs us about 5000 by sea 16 days including customs clearance. You will also find that the cost of shipping over seas will increase mid August due to high demand for Xmass.
