Just wondering if the removal of the centre muffler is illegal as don't you need to have two mufflers for it to be roadworthy, or is it soley based on noise and not how many mufflers you have??? A lot of guys/gals seem to have done this mod :stirthepot:

:stirthepot: Your right, it is illegal. You do have to have the correct number of muffler's on your car. (hotdog's count as mufflers :stirthepot: )

It's based on noise. You can have two mufflers / resonators / hotdogs or whatever and still be over the legal noise limit. I've had two cars now that just got through the pits when they measured the noise at the pipe. Both had resonators and lukey mufflers. If the mufflers were less restrictive I would have been in strife.

It has to pass the 93dB drive pass test.

I do not think the center muffler removal would make the car exceed this noise test.

I have done mine and it only adds a nice growl, but I have the hotdogs.

I am not aware of any min muffler requirements, only that the car must have the Cat fitted.

Have a look at this page on the APS website. Yes, I use an APS system, but the site is also useful for other general info regardless of what product you are using - if you spend the time searching through all the BS to find it:

Go to Exhaust Noise Testing down at the bottom section of this page: http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/falcon/legalities.htm :glad:

I hate to be a party pooper but the removal of the muffler without replacing it with another muffler is illegal. In the EPA regs there is a section which deals with (amongst others) ram pod style filters and externally venting blow off valves, and it also mandates that the exhaust system MUST have the same number of mufflers/resonators that is on the car when it is manufactured.

I'm all for modifying the car, cheap power increases etc, but don't say you weren't warned when some knucklehead in an XR6Turbo, driving around being an idiot (obviously not someone on this Forum) gets his modified car examined by the Police/RTA/EPA and the centre muffler modification is found.

The EPA guys will send out an information sheet to the HWP advising what types of cars to look at and what type of mods are illegal.

When this happens blame the idiot in an XR6Turbo who has been playing up in the car and brought himself and the modifications under notice. This means that it is going to affect the good guys who just want a bit more power and use it responsibly.

D*ckheads and Ramraiders don't only drive Jap grey imports and GTR'S WRX'S etc etc. The cult car of the new century will be their flavour of the month soon too!

Its a pity they do not bother busting the Harleys that run around with no baffling and have 140dB exhausts.

The road rules are a joke, but I am not fussed I got hotdogs so its all good.
