That's OK - makes sense then, as I can't really tell the difference between Vortex and Vortex 98. So around the 500 per tank is what I'd expect - I get a bit under if it's all city/low speed driving too.

Synergy 8000 for me. Optimax soots up the exhaust to much.

Mmmmm. I average 16-17L /100kms after 2300kms from new. Worst average was 27L/100kms, best was 16/100kms. I use whatever 95/98 ron I happen to stop at. Results from people using exclusively unleaded would be interesting, though I personally would not recommend it from what ive read/heard.

Last tank of optimax I got 266 klm's and average fuel was 21.4 L/100

On one of the first forum dyno days we had alot of cars run up. All the auto's except 2 ran between 180-190rwkw's. The other 2 ran 201rwkw's. All were standard cars with no mods, (this was before mods). The only difference was that the 2 cars that ran 201rwkw's were using 98ron fuel and the rest were on 91ron.

I have also heard over the years that those using the 98 get better economy.

Shell Optimax was the fuel of choice till 6-9 months ago. This is no longer the case as the fuel doesn't seem to be consistant any more. BP Ultimate is now the fuel of choice. I've heard that Caltex98 is the same as BP.

Couldn't be the same in Queensland, as BP and Caltex both have refineries in Brisbane, and are in direct competition to each other. Maybe in other states things differ.

For example, in WA, only BP has a Refinery, so MAYBE Caltex sources the stock fuel from BP, but then, they would put in their own additives.

What happens in Sydney I wonder? BP don't have a refinery there do they, just Shell and Caltex?

Agreed, although not in all areas.

Two guys I work with now (senior in my Coy, one is our CEO) are ex-Shell and the CEO was very much top tier Shell executive.

They both confirm much brand similarity or even indentical gas used at different brand bowsers. Of course they also reckon Optimax is the best in most cases - lol.

I also find, as you all will, that if you search threads every brand gives better performance, economy, and so on depending on the poster.

Same for other forums for other cars.

One day, maybe, we will see some SCIENCE to prove one is better than the other.

Even though I remain unconvinced, as I've already posted in a few thread, Caltex seem to guarantee a MINIMUM research octane number (RON) of 95 (Vortex) & 98 (Vortex 98). So I use Vortex 98 and the Phase II was tuned with this - but I may change as in Sydney it is certainly over the top in price in most cases, as compared to all the others.

Every one saying that the cost is high for this and that but no one has mentioned the price so far..

I put ultimate in the 6 last night $1.20.9/ltr In Cairns FNQ its getting expensive
