Mines a stock T however I do notice a difference betweent the fuels... never tried dyno'ing to verify what I've found.

* Shell Optimax - Great for economy however power seems to lack. Engine I find runs/sounds a little harsh

* Shell pulp - Good for power and ecomony

* BP Ultimate - Best for power and economy.

* BP Pulp - Good for power and ecomony

* Vortex 95 - Great for power and good for economy; however the engine seem to run/sound a little harsh

* Vortex 98 ( :spoton: expensive stuff when compared to the alternatives ie ulimate/etc) - good for power and ecomony

Runs/sounds a little harsh; it feels and sounds that the engine has to work a little harder to achieve that similar thrust in your seat power when compared to BP ultimate.

However, whether or not the pertol companies like to admitt it or not, they can and do have 'bad' batches of petrol. Or dare I say "water-it" down (I.e. blend in methanol) ...

Wow, I'm assuming you get 570-590 per tank with majority highway work??? I'm flat out getting 400 around town and about 500-550 on highway with my stock T (5sp man) running with BP ult (98) or Vortex (95).

I get those km's pretty much round town runs..

Home to work etc and off to shops etc and including the odd flog.

I got 2003 Auto and drive it normal Auto ( Not using adaptive shift )

On about 10.5l/100 Hightest ive seen mine go upto is 12.1 and that was after a floggin on the cruise

I wonder if the 2nd CAI and KnN filter is the fuel saving factor here......

I use Caltex Vortex 98 exclusively, mainly becuase that's what the car was tuned with.

I remain TOTALY unconvinced that it's necessarily the best buy and YES as some smart cookie wrote in this thread it is F---ING expensive compared to the alternatives. My wife keeps giving me these shopping dockets with 4c/litre (or whatever) off Caltex petrol, but every Caltex I've been to that accepts such dockets doesn't sell Vortex 98.....smart. :glad:

Peak (meaning worst) fuel economy was 20L/100km +/- .3L/100km (see avatar) at around maybe 2,500km - perhaps 3,500km and this was from new, maybe 8km, so never reset.

The problem here is Sydney traffic with 99% built up area driving and very low average speeds - say 32km/h - and a heavy foot.

Since Phase II the economy according to my calculations by receipts and odomoter, and the tripmeter which seems strangely accurate despite the mods including 500cc/min injectors and dire warnings of inaccuracy, has improved with the same driving to about the 18.5L/100km range. Then again I swapped to Vortex 98 just before the mod so it must be the gas - lol.

think you might be right on the k&n, cai point xrfury..

I have only ever got just over 500 outta a tank in my 03 5 speed..

avg L/100k = 13.1. (this is with a mix of hwy/city, prolly 50-50)

a cai and k&n helped on my old dunnydoor..

I only use pulp now but a few tanks on ultimate98 didn't really affect mileage

I put in Mobil 8000 the other day.. They claim that its 98ron.. The car does not go anywhere near as well on 8000 that it does on Optimax or Ultimate. Best ive got on a why trip using Optimax is 10.4l/100. Had no problem with soot

Well on shell prem I get around 550km to a tank with mixed city and highway driving. If I use BP or Caltex it drops to well under 400

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

and they're all 98 RON? That's an astounding amount of difference!

However, I get about 500 using Caltex Vortex (95 RON) anyway...
