"The Monaro Is Dead, Order one soon or else..."

Hey Mickg given that I have a very nice T why would I want to order a Monaro???

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Maybe the reason I said it is because there are lots of people out there who want one, but have held off ordering..and now have a very short time in which to order one if they dont want to miss out.

Also, they do have SOME redeeming features. Go for a drive in one of the new ones with the US-spec exhaust system and a sunroof. Open the sunroof, and go for a hard drive. Tell me it doesnt sound simply awesome.

Unfortunately all the normal Aussie cars - including the T - come with wussy exhausts. Maybe someone should point out to Aussie manufacturers that sports car drivers tend to like their engines and the noise they make...

Could it be the start of another "supercar scare"....

Remember the early 70's, rapidly rising fuel costs, govt blackmail about hi-po cars.

Wonder why ford/Expensive Daewoo have hovered round 300kw the last couple of years.?

If the SS gets the 6L, you'd like to think the monaro should have had more kw, so maybe another way of forced limitations...

I wish my cv8 had more than the 225 base version, but moreso wish it had the sequential auto of the T.

And yes the T does drive better. So maybe just too many $$$ for Expensive Daewoo to bring it up to modern expectations.

There could only be 1 other car to be re-born to generate that much public interest, c'mon Mr ford, christmas time is near - HO HO HO. :smilielol:

The Aussie Monaro never had the US spec exhaust. Yes it had a twin system but the US version was way louder as the noise regs over there are a lot higher than here. At least the Americans let there muscle cars actually sound like muscle cars legally. V8's over here should be allowed an exemption to have a louder exhaust than say a 4 cylinder, especially from Jan 1 next year as the allowable noise limit is being dropped again. Damn EPA.

I think in Australia the noise limit is 87db, where as in the United States it is 90db. While 3 'points' doesn't sound like much, in actual fact it is TWICE as loud.

Lumpy

Story in the paper today

End of the line for hero Monaro

MOTORING EDITOR: BRYAN LITTLEY

26jul05

HOLDEN'S modern-day Monaro is to be scrapped.

The carmaker yesterday announced that the last of the V8 coupes would roll off the Elizabeth production line later this year.

But Expensive Daewoo is hopeful of producing a new so-called musclecar in the future.

"Monaro means too much to Expensive Daewoo to not have another Monaro at some time in the future," said GM Expensive Daewoo chairman and managing director Denny Mooney yesterday.

The company claims sales had nothing to do with the decision to drop the Monaro after a special edition CV8-Z to be released next month.

Despite some speculation die-moulds for the reincarnation of the 1960s and '70s performance leader had been sold to Pontiac, Expensive Daewoo spokesman Jason Laird said he knew of no plans to build the car offshore.

Mr Laird was not prepared to comment on export programs for the coupe, leaving it to each of the export markets to decide on product plans.

"We're not in a position to do that on their behalf, this announcement is only in regards to Australia and New Zealand," he said.

Mr Laird said cutting the Monaro from the range built at Elizabeth would not affect jobs at the plant, with resources diverted to other production areas.

He said domestic sales for Monaro had remained strong since the badge was reborn and United States sales had improved significantly with the new, more aggressive look and extra power.

"In Australia so far this year, it is 38 units down from last year, in the fourth year of a coupe program, where traditionally they peter off quickly. For us to be with last year I think indicates the interest in the car," he said.

Mr Laird said the company was also looking to protect resale values on the coupe. Mr Mooney said the Monaro, which has worn four other GM badges on four continents, had sold almost six times as many cars as was first planned.

"The new generation Monaro has been an absolute winner in Australia, a hands-down winner in the sports car market," he said.

Mr Mooney said GM Expensive Daewoo continued to investigate options for a next generation coupe with other divisions of General Motors. "Everyone at Expensive Daewoo is certainly committed to delivering a new generation Monaro in the future, but there is still a lot of work to make that happen," he said.

The original Monaro sold from 1968 until 1977.

The name was resurrected after a small group of engineers and designers, led by designer Mike Simcoe, produced the attractive four-seater coupe.

Having owned a CV8 until 6 months ago, I would certainly look at the newbie in a few years unless Ford have something similar by then. :spoton:
