Hi All,

I'm purchasing a home theatre system component speaker set (so two front drivers, two rears and a centre + sub) comprised of denmark brand Peerless speakers in custom build enclosures.

You can read about the speaker kits:

HERE!

my question to the legions is what would be a suit able amp to power these speakers.. I don't want to spend stupid amounts of money, so keep it to the $1000 mark if possible, but I'm willing to be flexible.

Cheers,

Matt

For around a $1000 you could get yourself an auto adjusting 7.1 surround sound amplifier.

Something like this:

Pioneer VSX 915

130w x7channel

or

Pioneer VSX 1014

170w x7channel

I plan on buying the VSX 1014. Still not the most expensive part of my sound though (Dali Sub is)

Yamaha is all I have used over the years when it comes to receivers, good quality long lasting and around your price range.

Ah, a topic near and dear to my heart! Yeah, if home theatre's your thing, you can't really go wrong with Yamaha. I'm not up to date on what the latest models are (though some that have already replied obviously are), but I have what was at the time the top-of-the-range 5 channel Yamaha receiver and I couldn't be happier with it. Sound processing for movies is just superb and even when just listening to a CD the quality is most definitely there. And, as xrdreaming said, for $1000 you could pick up a pretty decent one.

You've obviously done a bit of homework, Peerless drivers are excellent quality, just make sure the enclosures are up to scratch to do them justice, and don't skimp on the sub if you can possibly help it - absolutelty vital for good home theatre!

If you're going to use it for music too and prefer a more subdued sound (some have criticised the Yamahas for being too 'bright'), you might like to look at some of the Denon range too.

Good luck with your decision! :stirthepot:

I have NFI what model it is, but at the time I paid $1000 for my Pioneer reciever.

I'm running 5.1/DTS at the moment but the amp can run 6.1 too.

I don't know much about this stuff, I just thought Pioneer, good brand. What I do know with some 130watt speakers on 3/4 volume I can hear what I play down the street.

Makes it very handy when my neighbour puts on some anthony hairy calea, casey fatbitch donavan, shannon drink driver, gay sebastic at her highest volume.

I always have some Korn or Fear Factory ready to blast. She usually gets the idea after one song :stirthepot:

I'm glad you're not my neighbour Cro!! :censored:

Yeah, most decent amp and speaker combos can go to ridiculously high levels. At my old place, which was much smaller than where we live now, I couldn't turn my sub up much past 1/4 way without shaking the house to bits! :msm::gooff:

Even now it's nowhere near halfway and still rocks the place no worries. It's only got a 10" driver but has 1000W driving it! :gooff:

Thanks guys... :)

I have heard good things about Yamaha and it will now be my first choice :)
