Just read more into it. Tempe Tyres in Sydney, blow the joint up. They are the most dishonest and backyard fools on the planet. No wonder your thinking about 20's when you shop at places like this. Im sure theyve all sworn to go that they will give you the best deal and the wheels will look the most fully sickest in Sydney.

Apart form the defect I'll be adding "Drive with vehilce standard defects other - wheels/tyres not comply with standard" at $125.

Tempe Tyres. Pffffffffffff!!!

20 inch rims on XR's and your asking to be defected.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I dont think so mate. Your allowed to go 2 inches bigger in diamter and width and xr6 can come with 18 inch tyres out of the factory

Yes, where always forever arguing about the 1 inch up and down versus the 2 inch up and down rule, and when it does and does not apply to sports car catagories of vehicles, which the XR does not fall into, as it belongs in the family sedan catagory. Then we have those that tell us how they can come out with bigger sizes from the manufactuer, but when it comes down to it, you bought an XR6, not an XR8, so the standard rim sizes are 17inch, regardless of whatever spin you wish to believe.

And do you really think you can go two inches wider or have you confused yourself further.

In Vic the diameter of your wheels does not matter as long as your rolling diameter does not change from stock (actually I think there is a tiny allowance for extra diameter). There are also limits on width.

Also, the issue with these cheapo wheel places is they put on the crappiest tyres which most likely will not comply with manufacturer load ratings, thus making your car defectable. Insurance also will not pay up if you have incorrect load ratings and are involved in an accident.

Soon to purchase my 4th set of wheels from Tempe Tyres in the last 2&1/2 years and have found them to be very good in price, service and quality and I think 20's on the ba looks very good if that's what you want and if I did'nt use my car as a family car I would be putting on some 20's

CYA JEFF

I haven't bought anything from Tempe Tyres but have been through their showroom and talked to some of their staff on more than one occasion. From what I have seen they are NOT shoddy and do not put on crap understandard tyres. In fact most of their tyres will easily exceed the manufacturers recommendations.

Everyone I have spoken to who have purchased wheels/tyres from them have been happy - you can't get better recommendation than that!

As for interpretation of the ADRs, most decent coppers will leave you alone if you aren't drawing attention to yourself doing laps/burnouts around the Maccas carparks etc.

Just so everybody is clear on what "is" and "is not" acceptable as far as wheels sizes go, here is the Guide to Modifications for Motor Vehicles as per VicRoads. This should put an end to the debates.

Ha ha, brilliant! Just go to the source! If we had a points system I'd hit you with a few for common sense (wish I had some :stirthepot: ).

For the Premier State...err NSW for those that don't live here, the RTA has reams of info on modifications as I've found.

You can look here for what you want: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/dow...si/vsi_dl1.html

Specifically for wheels & tyres you want this: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/dow.../vsi09_rev4.pdf

or if you are lazy a copy of the pdf is attached. It's a very comprehensive document but one core issue stated is:

"Minor changes to wheels

Wheels up to 26mm wider than the largest optional wheel recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for the vehicle can be fitted without the need to notify the RTA.

The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle."

Drive your car normally on a public roadway and road related areas and 20's wont worry anyone. They will however become a great excuse for a defect and traffic infringement if the attitude sux and your driving record reflects it.
