Who's is faster around 'x' circut, or doesn't anyone care about that??

Who ever has the most coin to spend, brembo's/Alcon, proflex, race tyres etc.etc.

These old buckets are built as a mum's taxi not a racecar!

The reason they are only concerned about 1/4 mile is because they don't have the coin. In circuit racing the car is the cheapest part & to run these things you'd need to budget at least $100,000.

A mate of mine this year alone has spent over $35,000 on his Improved production Subi. That's just the damage bill, not including tyres, fuel ($5/litre), tuning, race fees, accomodation etc.

Also there should be 2 classes to compare Xr6t's down the qtr mile.

1st class unmodded internals, with modded trans (as long as it's original equipment) & bolt ons

2nd class fully modded, anything goes, rods, pistons, trans, diff etc etc. Just need to be xr6turbo

I agree Russ with all of that. The only problem is who is going to police it. Its a great idea and maybe something people like HPF, Nizproand other tune shops should think about. It could be done for drag racing and at club level for circuit sprints. I know the HSV club do it for circuit. Now you've got my attention who else

let me say this hpf do a good job no doubt!

also nizpro do a good job no doubt!

aps for that matter do a good job once again no doubt!

they do this good work because of r&d countless hours not charged out as such that needs recouping!!!

go with who you feel most comfortable with!!!

as to the capa unit being cheap there not infact some of us are paying full retail for the box's temporarilly as part of the contract deal!!!

while others have spent up big and bought 50-100 units to become distributors!!!

don't kid yourselves as an example ive done 10 units at zero profit just to get to know the way it works and now I charge for this knowledge!!!

$400 -700 is fair as I said before and not every cars is the same to tune so what some do is charge 150 per hour to custom tune!

fact is they got bills and need food on their table don't begrudge them this!!!

an electrician / plumber charges you $60-100 for call out and $100+ per hour with only $10,000 in tools and a van with you all paying up and shutting up!

most tuners have more than $300,000 invested and you all winge!!!!

Too true Russ,

I haven't heard of anyone on this forum give us lap times on any particular circuit. Hell my Cyborg would run rings around most of the cars here on a particular track, but I didn't build the xr6t for circuit work, however when it is done, it will certainly go there.

I guess we have to weigh up everything.

What feels best and which tuner you feel comfortable with is the most important thing.

Like I said in another thread, I've been treated extremely well at Etheridge Ford, so will continue going back to them. My workmate didn't like them for one reason or another some years back, so he won't go back. (but may after he's seen what they're doing for me)

I've also been treated well by HPF so will continue going there as well for all my mods.

Once a particular tuner gets to know your car, you'd always stick with them for that very reason.

Hey dyno wog ring  some work shop both for there help if there willing and they might also have customer that might want to get involved. Strong grids always help

Hey guys just got a price from nizpro for the edit they said  $1995 with a customer tune. Now is this a good price? or can there be a better price?

Still comes down to $700+ for less than a days work and it's not as if that's the only job their workshop can handle during that day.

No need to charge that much.

Jordak, you have to consider overheads like insurance, liability, wages etc etc. Then R&D time getting these things right..

Yeah, u can wack in the tune that gets it pretty close in 5 mins, tweak it in another 1/2 hr, but to get to that stage takes knowledge, experience and a workshop..

I don't know why ppl judge the cost of things by the time it takes to complete. Behind the scenes, it's a whole nother story..

People run businesses to make money, just like ppl go to work, to make other ppl money (unless u don't have a boss :) ) it's a cycle.. We live with it..

And there are other places to get your car tuned..

Yes I understand the logistics of business such as overheads, insurances etc but there's more to consider when questioning what represents value for money.

Now I have had no experience with Nizpro however given their proven track record and long list of advocates, I'm sure there will be no shortage of people more than happy to pay their asking price of $700 for custom tuned edit and good luck to them.

This doesn't change the fact that in my opinion $700 for a custom tuned edit is a bit on the steep side, for a number of reasons.

Firstly lets not forget that it was only 7mths or so ago that CAPA launched edit product stating on behalf of all of its distributors a price of $1,297 + $250 - $300 for a custom tune.

Secondly its a fair bet that Nizpro and other tuners for that matter have for some time been stockpiling custom tunes. Sure every car is different and will therefore require some fine tuning, however it would be safe to say that they would draw upon existing tunes as a base as opposed to starting each and every tune from scratch.

As far as R&D is concerned I'm sure alot of the expertise gained and ultimately profited from was and still is being achieved by working on customers cars such as yours, mine and others on this forum. The investment in R&D is somewhat reduced when you have a steady supply of paying test mules wouldn't you say.
