Premium Brake Rotors

I was wondering if anyone knows the wear limits on the premium brake rotors?

The reason I ask is that after not looking at the fronts for a while, I checked them today and the elliptical grooves have dissapeared. :crybaby::stirthepot:

That brings me to my next question.

Those that have DBA 4000 replacements, are they as good as the originals? I was going to get some bendix ultimate pads to.

Any help or comments appreciated

30,000 seems to be the norm.

I've heard of 15,000 and 68,000 before too.

I'm on 51,000 with the grooves still there.

The DBA4000's would be a better rotor, I will be getting a set of these when my rotors are gone, but will be sticking with the Ford pads.

You guys ran your discs down so the grooves vanished? In how many k's? Do you tow a trailer or similar?

I did 30k with my Mk1 and they were damn hard k's. First set of brake pads in less than 15,000km. New rear tyres every 9,000kms. 23.5L/100km of premium.

I drive hard every single time I step into my car, both in terms of acceleration, cornering and braking. And as far as I noticed, definitely didnt run down to the end of the grooves in 30k.

How did you guys do it? I do not believe you can drive any harder than I do on the road, so am interested to know how you could blank your premium discs!

Mine still have plenty of groove.

I had pads replaced at 30k

I probably drive just as hard as you in the city, the difference is the majority of my driving is on the highway, and I tend to use my gears to slow me down rather than my brakes (manual)

Track days arent really gentle on rotors. Espicially when brakin from 150+ km/h time after time again...that's the only thing I can think of that could wear the rotors down that much.

I bought the car with 34,000kms on it so I can't vouch for what it copped before that, but it now has 55,000kms on it and the grooves are gone.

I must say I give the car a fair hiding most of the time, and my mates and I do a fair bit of cruising on weekends(read: silly driving(on a private driveway of course :spit: )).

I was wondering if anyone knows that the missing grooves means it has exceeded the wear limits? :gooff:

I believe the V8 Supercars use DSC2500's.

Either way they are a far superior pad to the Ultimates, don't know anything about the RB74's so can't comment on that.

They also sell the DSC2500's with AP Racing brake packages (big 4pot and 6pot calipers), and also as Brembo replacments.

If you can find a way to get the DSC2500's to fit in the premium caliper please let me know. The last I heard they had to be specially cut.

I've asked this on another string- but it's relevent here too: Has anyone found a good all-round pad (not comp.) that will fit with Premium brakes and DO NOT squeal with moderate pressure braking?? I spoke with FPV today and the last pad upgrade was June 2004 - so any brakes that still squeal on builds since then have the "better" pads; I.e. there is still a problem there...
