I am in the same boat as you, but will wait until the 6 speed auto comes before I make my decision whether to mod my T or trade for the F6.

$2200 for insurance....eeekk Why so much only slightly more expensive than the T and has the same security system

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

that's what I said said as well  The Phoon has an alarm + Microdot security where as the T didn't. :spoton: etc etc

That said this car is insured for more than 25% more than the T was, it is an FPV as well. I still think the insurance is a bit steep, but I would prefer the peace of mind in keeping my cover with modifications. Its covered in my lease budget anyhoo so all is good.

Curious to hear what AAMI are charging my Phoon brothers in Sydney and elsewhere.

Mate, they want to slug me around the same. 33yo, rating one, Qld. Apparently, the insurance companies take a dislike to FPV's and HSV's because they receive undue attention in the way of malicious damage - key anyone!

The RAA guy hinted at this also. He also said because it was a new model with no history they have to base it on something. Sounds like they've done that on the HSV's rather than the XR6T, prolly cause its more exclusive than "just a ford". I guess parts for a minor front end collision would be dearer and harder for repairers to get hold of than a XR6's.

He said the premiums would prolly go down in a year or two if they had good history with them.

Options on cars don't show up in added resale at the time of trade-in. As such optioning up and XR6T to Typhoon levels will show you far less return in the end. A Typhoon should hold much better resale given their exclusivity.

Insurance in QLD is around A$1200.00 but if you take a bigger exces option then you can get the premium down to under $800.00. Just depends on how you want to juggle the money.

Fuel economy is a big variable. My car has 18,000Km on the clock now and I get 18ltrs around town and 12.5ltrs on a highway trip. This is a couple of ltrs/100km more than my last moded T, but I have a lot more rwhp now as well. If you drive like grandma then you can get good economy from them, but who buys an FPV for economy?

If I were you I'd seriously consider waiting to see the 6sp auto. They will be a weapon and if you do a lot of city driving they will be the pick of the litter. Just depends on your schedule and when you need to get into a new car.

Good luck with your descision.

Watch out for Demos- make sure they were at the dealership only.

I've written a few car aticles in my time and you don't want to know what the hacks do to them on test weeks.

In support of this comment - I sell DataDots - and Yes - the fitting of DataDots by the manufacturer does reduce insurance premiums. 7 manufacturers in Oz now fit them and all have experienced reductions in theft rates: eg 93% for Subaru and 64% for HSV, 62% for BMW. (FPV is too small a sample to get full stats at this stage). We are yet to convince Ford, Expensive Daewoo and Mitsubishi to put DataDots on the 'mainstream' models - but we're working on it!!

Guys, been spending alot of time thinking about what to get next after the T.

Been tossing up Liberty GT, Liberty R-B, 6 MPS (if its any good) or another T.

If I got another T I would option it up somewhat (only got Prem sound on this one) with lux pack and possibly 18's, brakes and sunroof etc.  When I used the online  configurator I got it up to $58202 without the sunroof...So I figure - not far off the price of the Typhoon!

So what price can Joe Bloggs off the street expect to pay for a Typhoon??  (I got $5K off the rrp of my first T).

What do you guys pay for insurance?  Got a quote for $1681 through RAA (paid $692 for the T)  What did you pay if you had a T before (so I can compare).

How much petrol are you using? (and how did you do if you had a T before?)

Thanks in advance

SOON2BXR6T, those are all the same thoughts I had in my head about 3 months ago.

I had an XR6T and wanted to replace it with a newer optioned up one... or the same 2 alternatives you mentioned.

The scoobydoo is expensive for the size car you get, rear seats are too small for an adult (with a head) in either a sedan or the wagon.

MPS sound ok except it has the same power as the Scooby and is almost 200kg heavier as apparently a lot of reinforcing is regired to the 6 to handle the power upgrade....

So now I drive a Buffooon, I live in the ACT so insurance and city cycle fuel consumption are better than others seem to get.

XT6T city 13L/100k hwy 10.0L/100k insurance (business) $1298

F6 city 14L/100k hwy 10.5L/100k insurance (business) $1450

Its much more fun to drive being a 3 pedal car, a lot of folk do themselves an injury gawking thier necks to get a better look at it, even those from the dark side. It drives much better than the XR more precise and firmer yet quieter. (all the extra weight is probably sound proofing :spoton: )

The Ford service guys were always good to me in the past, but they love the F6 and treat me like Ford royalty. When I drop it off for a service they clear a spot in front of the office and put it there so no one parks near it and everyone can see it. :kissmy:

The only down sides are that I am more nervous as to where I park it (fear jealous loosers may damage it :nono: ). It is no lower overall but the front and rear bumpers are much lower and scrape at places I had no problems accessing in the XR (even when taken slowly and at an angle). :pinch:

And XR owners don't like it (dont wave) probably just muttering about.....

"pr!ck...mumble....mumbly....wish I had one...grumbly....mumbley...don't get paid enough....pr!ck" :kissmy:

And mod'ed XR6T owners are always trying to challenge you to a race. :pinch:

Highly recomend it.

I have Datadots on my T.

GIO in NSW told me it made no difference to the premium 2 years ago.

Has their policy changed?
