Having done a bit of reading, it looks like this is a pretty common problem for those having done a few mods (and some who haven't!). I first experienced it yesterday - I'm putting it down to the cold weather here at the moment maximum of only 4.7degrees in Northern New England yesterday... yep - that was the MAX!!! it snowed most of today!

Under a hard toe, the ute dropped down to three cylinders and I had a guess at what it might have been so backed off - but it is a little disconcerting and it would be great to overcome the issue. No boost guage so no clue what she was running!?

Would welcome any suggestions - I was thinking that with the recent cold winter weather some of you guys have probably had this happen too???

Mate , looking at your sig . Your ute set up is identical to that of my T when I had it right down to the RWKW. I had suffered intermmitent overboost and subsequent limp mode in cold and also humid conditions and at times when in the opposition side of the road when overtaking ...... scary :pooh: I assure you :spoton:

Only happened on about 10 occasions in the year or so I was running Phase2 , but at the most disconcerting times :spoton:

This had been investigated and not solved numerous times including checking of boost clamps and O2 sensors , this coupled with plummeting used car values were the contributing factors in getting out of my lease 12 months early. There is a common denominator here

Ford recently released a reflash that fixed the overboost problem. It's a problem with some settings in the factory computer. Take the car back to ford to get it done but it may affect the unichip tune after its reflashed.

Been there done that .... + retune = more frequent overboost. Death trap :spoton:

I'll probably get slammed for this, but ill say it anyway.

When my T had the zaust and the Typhoon cooler done, overboost was as simple as applying 1/4 throttle.

Ever since I flashed the 10psi Edit map in, overboost is a thing of the past. I was giving my T large last Friday night, when it was approx 3 degrees down here, and there was no overboost. And the only time ive had the WDS plugged in was to do live data logging. No Ford reflash for me.

IMHO Edit = no overboost.

this is my personal opinion only, it is neither right nor wrong, and is not representative of the opinions from the owner or admin team of fordxr6turbo.com

Mick ... funny that, edit is not the be all and end all but sh*t it is a lot closer than piggy  As I do a fair few laps of the Brisbane to Sydney run , I cannot and will not put my life at risk again because I could not trust my car any longer to do what it was supposed to do stock, yet alone modded.Very nearly had me killed twice.

Its alright to support a product , but sorry loyalty to a product and tuner goes out the window when you think about it.Just imagine my estranged wife ( and also still good mate) explaining to my 6 & 8 year old that daddy is dead because his car could not be trusted. Put this into context and I will happily field all flames. So fan boys sorry , but this is fact and your idealist perceptions can get stuffed :gooff:

No kids, probably = no care . that's ok for you not me. My kids are my all and I was more than happy to off load what overall was a great car :greyscare:

My choice, no correspondence entered into :kissmy: all about priorities. Plus the look on the kids faces when we picked the Phoon up was priceless. :gooff:

If the cars fitted with piggy backs are overboosting, would it help to tune the car on a freezing cold day?

That way the car is tuned for the cold dense air and shouldn't overboost.

In theory anyway....

Whoa there Jewels, ease up a smidge.

No kids = no care? that's a bit harsh. Quite often I travel with Kirsten in the car with me, and looking after her is 900% priority to me. No, change that, you can't put a figure on caring for someone's life.

I trust all my cars with my life and the life of others, every single one of them. Even my XC, making nearly 600hp at the wheels (as we speak), if that car was even slightly dangerous on the road, to either myself or other road users, do you seriously think I would drive it? My tuner is also a close family friend, and he would not release any of my 4 cars to me if he thought that driving any of them was endangering either my life, or any of my passengers, or the general public.

All I was trying to say, is that this member has a piggyback, and is suffering from overboost. I dont have this problem, as I am running the Edit. I was just trying to canvass possible solutions that this member may try and follow up with. I have absolutley no connections with CAPA, Herrods, or any other flash distributor. I still have not had a custom tune done.

Hope this clears things up.

If you have been playing with a WDS, what might you know about which flashes ford have released ??
