Don't despair too much about the dragstrip. If the politicians can actually keep an election promise - oh what am I saying. Here's a media release that might show a light at the end of the tunnel.

The CEO of the Royal National Capital Agricultural Society, Geoff Cannock, will chair a committee appointed to advise the Government on the construction of a dragway in the Majura Valley, Chief Minister Jon Stanhope announced today.

"In accordance with its pre-election commitment, the ACT Government has established a Dragway Advisory Committee, comprising community representatives, individuals with an interest in dragway and motor sports and government officials. The committee will advise the Government on the establishment of a dragway in the Majura Valley," Mr Stanhope said.

"The Government remains committed to a dragway and has shown that commitment by allocating $8 million in capital funding for the project.

"The construction of a dragway is a significant undertaking. The Dragway Advisory Committee will help work through issues including the appropriateness of a site in the Majura Valley, and help ensure that all factors, including noise and other environmental considerations, are properly considered.

"I thank the members of the Dragway Advisory Committee for agreeing to participate in this important process."

I have very fond memories of the old track (2 track championships) It was one of the smoothest strips run by a great bunch of officials.

Only problem is the 8 million will be swallowed up in committees, public consultation, planning consents etc.

And their findings will be to simply reopen the original strip... (I think it's still there sitting there unused... )

I have just endured 2 days in Quenbeyan , staying in a motel for $60 a night run by Arpoo....

crikey it was cold.

The thrifty Ford territory was great until I shut the drivers door and the door handle came off in my hand.

Back to Brisvagas today and off with the coat!
