I hit redline (both hard and soft) several times DAILY at least. Usually in 1st and 2nd. Often because Im having too much fun and being lazy. (Rarely when Im driving seriously).

Why? Because I can!

Did it on my Mk1 without fail every day and no engine issues whatsoever in 2 years aside from plowing through the fuel at a steady 23L/100km as Im always driving with WOT in the city. Now doing it on my mk2 and again, no issues...except again on 23L/100km.

Dont be afraid to hit it. Its there for a reason and that is to catch your engine BEFORE damage occurs.

Have hit it a few times in my Blown V8 Ute, it tries to put me through the windscreen and the revs die to around 2000rpm also. The motor thinks for a second or so then back into it.

This soft limit that the Edit does, is it any good? I would like feed back from people with experience. And exactly what does it do and the differences?

Cheers, Brett.

I see..

So its not like my other car where I could bounce it off it repeatedly and stuff the engine.. (that's good to know!  )

And yeah, I was powering along and then whammo, almost head butt the windscreen!

do a burnout at full noise, revs go up hit the limiter and it bounces back 50-100 rpm, climbs back up and hits the limiter again, drops back 50-100 again so on and so on.. ohh but watch the temp gauge because that will start climbing very quickly to.

going back down to 2000rpm sounds not nice, and possibly more then the limiter. Normally it only goes down to about 5000 rpm (still enough to piss you off)... personaly I would be trying again just to see what happenes as you will be more aware.

The only problem with this is that *if* something strange is going on then its going to be hard for you to tell your dealer "ahh when I give my car WOT and I hit the limiter something strange happens..." :nono:

I dont know about anyone else here... but when I hit the limiter, the revs just stop at 5800 rpm and stay there... they dont drop back to 2000rpm.

I have felt both the hard and soft limiter, and the only difference is the harshness of the rev cut.  It does NOT drop back to 2000rpm.

If it does drop down to 2000rpm then something is not right.
