I have done the same, where I work we are also FBT exempt on salary packages, so it's another saving. I also got government pricing which made my $50200 XR6T down to $39600. The insurance is included in the package which is only $900 per year. Rego etc is all in the lease to. But I pay for my own fuel. Ends up being $417 per fortnight before tax + fuel. Servicing and repairs are all included in the lease.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I am curious now, what type of department do you work for not to have to pay FBT ?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Ambulance.

I bought mine when I was 20. I never thought I would be able to afford one at that age, but I got lucky and found an excellent paying job and became an adult apprentice. Because of the overtime factor I could afford to buy the car without any dramas.

But now I am turning 22 soon and I am starting to look to the future. I am thinking of selling up and saving for a house deposit. If you are young and can afford a car like that why not get one? I have had the time of my life in my XR6T! I have met people from this forum, I have gone on cruises, drag raced a few times etc etc.. the list goes on. All bloody good fun that a young bloke should enjoy.

If I had my time again would I go back to that fatefull day and sign the paper again? TOO BLOODY RIGHT I WOULD!!!! The amount of fun I have had with my car is something I will remember forever. Now I feel its time for other things in life, but at least I can look back in a few years and say I 'owned one of those once' and think back to all the great stuff I did with the car and smile...

Well put mate, I know where you're coming from. I spent all my spare cash on cars, going out with friends, overseas trips, etc, when I was younger and had no financial commitments, lived with Mum and Dad, etc. And, like you, I had the time of my life and now have a wad of great memories to boot. Sure, I've wondered what I could have done with all that money now, but hell, there's no point crying over spilt milk and the truth of the matter is that if I had my time again, I'd certainly do it all over again. So no regrets!!

But yeah, now with a bub and another on the way, a mortgage, etc, etc, other responsibilities have meant different financial priorities. But hey, you can still have fun!!

I too am thinking about the future, but I don't want to sell the ute untill I have paid enough off it to purchase another brand new car (HIlux SR5, Outback H6 or similar). I am currently saving now for two years, looking at puting away 40G in the next 24 months (leaving me plenty to spend on the ute LOL!) and then I will sell the ute and maybe lease a new vehicle and purchase a house.

I have to buy something I can't modify though, that's the killer!

For me to afford the XR when I was 21/22 I had to (and still am) woarking around 50 hours a week, but I am lucky enough to be involved in a small business so I get excellent hourly rate. I pay more tax each week than some people earn gross! Bloody HECS  At least in three years I will get a $100 a week tax reduction, be like a pay rise!

If they are 19 and can afford a T they must be one of the 3 options:

1. Work in IT

2. Inherrentance or rich parents

3. Drug dealers.

I would suspect option 1 for most of our young T drivers :nono:

Hmm I am 20 and just got my T its not that hard if you just work hard.. couldnt get a brand new one but I own mine.. dont believe in finance if not I am sure the bank would love to lend me the extra cash for the GT or F6.

I dont know about point number 1.. I work in IT I gues I make ok bucks for my age but its not huge dollars well unless I get to be the manager all the other guys (30 or older) earn nearly the same.

I do agree about the age thing but they should do something like a course rather then hit us young ppl with huge amounts of money.. there is nothing stopping you older blokes slapping it sidways..

I love my T I just hate the insurance and so on but gotta put up with it I guess!

Good work fellas but yer be careful! as I found out these cars have a  load of power and in the wet do not turn off traction control unless u know what your doing lol!!

I guess I had a large jump going from a front wheel drive tj magna sports to the T never driving a rear wheel drive before makes it hard!

I am off my P's but.. not sure if its a good think the P plates get people's attention especially in these cars! but then again the colour I got people look and either go what the  is that or dam that's nice.. :Imwifhim:

o yeah living with the parents puts most of us in a better position than most.. + we are youn and stupid so we can spend our money on anything hahaha

Also helps if you are wog cause then your parents wont charge you to be at home!

I'm 19, and I've saved up 33 grand. I'm looking to buy a house or a wicked car like a new XR6T or WRX STI. that's when I get enough money but. :/

I think the house would be more of a wise choice but I can wait to get a new car!!!!!

I am driving my parents 1987 300D Mercedes at the moment. that's the 3 litre 5 cylinder diesel. 0-100 in about 20 seconds. Yeh its a bit too fast isnt it?!

I am a surveyor and I earn $65,000 a year plus a company car and I got that when I was 22, and I have owned my T for over 1 year now. I also have to take out $4000 a year for HECS, so when that puppy is payed off, I'll get another $70 a week back, and my T only costs me $150 a week and I will own it in 4 years.

I'll be married in two, own two carrs in four, and be buying my first house with my future wife witn a combined income of over 120K a year, not that hard really, especially when you have a company car so we can buy one brand spanker (Typhoon) between us! :spoton:

that's assuming I never get a pay rise (including my other half), but we will so it only gets easier LOL!
