XR6T,

Thanks for the compliment - by the time I get back in a few weeks hopefully it will have some more power to go with it.

I will give it a test at WSID when I return. The guys at MRT have really been coming along in leaps and bounds in recent times with their tuning capabilities, worth a look if you ever want some work done.

ENVI,

The bonnet has been great - all the latches were already built into the glass - havent had any probs at all.

How much does the stock bonnet weight compared to these ones?

Whats the saving?

Surely it would make at the very least a slight difference to the cars overall balance? (for the better).

Looks good Link.

I guess the only thing that concerens me is- is it legal, what happens if you have a front end smash, does it come through the windscreen?

The standard bonnet will crumbell rather then detatch and come off, and there always the insurance probs.

Do you know if there legal Link?

Its probably not unless they have re-run an ADR 69 front impact test for occupant protection. They would have to do this or proove by computer simulation to have the cars re-certified but I'm sure they would advertise that widely as the cost would be huge. Not only the risk of the bonnet going through the screen but airbag timing is an important consideration when you alter the front structure that affects crumple in an impact. my 2 cents.

Not so sure about the legalities, it wasnt my primary concern upon purchasing, and hopefully I will never test out the finite properties of impact reaction!! :pinch:

Thanks for the comments on the car - I have been working pretty hard to get good look for it. As XR6T has said - it looks much better in the flesh!

Hopefully I can catch up with some of the Sydney T crew in the near future.

Hi guys

to answer a few questions here

the fibreglass bonnets weigh approx. 8-9kgs, the original comes in close to 30kgs.

we make the bonnets that Intune Motorsport sell (actually we are the only manufacturers of the AU/BA bonnets, GT kits etc), plus all of the bodykits Intune sell.

the front latch can be adjusted to where ever you want

concerning legalities, the bonnets and how they are made have been checked over by a licenced engineer and he was actually impressed with the process and structural strength.

the bonnet will not come flying into the cabin with an impact, it would only crunch and crack

I unfortunately have tested out the strength of the fibreglass bonnet on my own AU XR8 ute and a few things -

the fibreglass bonnet was not on my modification list with my insurance and all NRMA's issue was that they will only replace it with a genuine bonnet and not a fibreglass one as it wasnt covered, they had no other issues with it.

cheers

that's pretty much answered my question regarding the legalities of the fibreglass bonnets, I know my insurance company will allow me to do any mods I like, but they must be leagel!

So Falkeen are you say that if you perchase a bonnet then you can get an engineers certification with the bonnet to keep the vehicle legal? :censored:
