Not everybody will agree, but something does need to be sone to stop these young punks killing themselves.Power is something that should be respected and experienced is only earned over time. I know there are youngies on this forum with xr6t`s and I would like to think they are mature and dont take risks.Unfortunately there are youngies (see hoon) that do not respect the power and this seems to be a way that they can be kept alive long enough to get off their P`s and maybe by that time realise how dangerous some of these performance cars can be. Maybe a better solution would be get caught hooning on public roads on your P`s and lose your license for good. I don`t know. Before you have a go at me , I would like to have kids one day and if Istill have the performance bug in me have them be able to drive my cars but by then they would have to earn it ,as has been said by some these days kids just don`t have the experience to handle the power.Maybe harder driving tests compulsory driving courses until they are off there P`s

Whilst the general opinion here seems to e quiet negative towards this list....I disagree.

Whislt not a perfect start, it at least is a start to stopping inexperienced drivers from hurting themsleves, but more importantly other people.

3 years is harldy a long time to wait and hopefully within that time all drivers can get themselves a good understanding of how a car handles under all conditions.

Then they can drive whatever they want.

I hope the govt puts some more restrictions on what a P licence driver can do ie not allowing them to carry unlicenced drivers etc. I believe it will make the roads a safer place.

However many loop holes there are in this new system I'm sure young people will find them. There's nothing to say you can't drive an M3 and they are a car with some amazing performance.

One of the main reasons that forced induction and large engine capacity vehicles are restricted is because of the easy performance gains from very simple modifications.

As much as I don't like it this is pretty obvious. After all the performavce gains from simple mods on a 351 C XY Falcon can be pretty brutal especially considering that the XY is pretty light and has considerable greater torque than a current BA 6 cylinder Falcon.

A Pulsar Et Turbo is a classic example of a cheap wa*ker cars than can be quite easily turned into an unguided missile.

It may be a poor start for P Platers, but at least it's a start and I do support the idea.

Non-turbo 6 cylinder Porches are OK.

LOL!! those turbo 3cyl Daihatsu's are on the list...

Just looked 'em up, a whopping 47kW and 0-100 in 11.7 secs, 400m in 18.2 secs.

That's just bloody ridiculous. I agree with the power to weight argument, they've had it for bikes for ages and it seems to work reasonably well (although learner riders can still hop on board a Harley/other cruiser that handles dangerously badly and weighs a bloody tonne).

Why doesn't NSW have a power to weight ratio like in VIC? My brother P plater has driven my mod'd T if he crashed would insurance pay out because he is not meant to be driving it on his P's?

my cousin is about to go onto his p's but I have just the car for him.

the replacement for the F360. the 360 is on the list but cant find the 430. so theres no problem!

A couple of things

1. A laser can go very hard if you talk to it nicely (my previous car

2. I am so glad that I got my license in the ACT and not NSW, I had a few friends get their license in NSW and they where even allowed to sneeze, whilst I could do anything a fully licensed driver could do (with exception to the .02 BA limit)

3. I have seen many more safe 'P' plate drivers than fully licensed drivers, and I have seen a few accidents happen, whilst some of them are because of 'P' platters doing stupid things most of them have been because the fully licensed driver thought that they where king , and of course they won't...

Now I know that 'P's haven't had as much driving experience as full license holders, but that been said the defining line to state that you can drive these cars should be if your taught how to drive them, not the fact that a piece of plastic / your age has changed...

What happens to the guys on P's that already have a car that's on this list?? Bit unfair for them I beleive!! I hope the government offers them a buy back scheme at the price they paid!!

I bet we see a lot of P platers not wearing P plates now!!

It does not apply to current P platers driving these cars. It only applies to P platers from july 11th. But if a current p plater loses their lisence then the new laws apply. Current P platers lawfully purchased their cars and are lawfully allowed to drive it. If not who will pay out all the loans etc, too much hassle.
