I have a mate that is on an oil consumption test at his dealer. Still trying to figure out where it is all going. He has an XRT MK11 6 sp

Mine used 1.5lt in the first 3000km, but not a drip since (now 22k km)

I think that these motors use a bit on the runin, but it should not continue.

Keep an eye on the levels and if it keeps using the oil take it back for a consumption test..

Yeah, expect a bit of usage early on. Mine used heaps for the first 8000kms, I was often topping a litre or so in to bring it back to full. After that it was fine.

Once they run in a bit it should settle down. Keep an eye on it, check the level every 1000kms, top up as needed. If it continues past 10K kms, get your dealer to put you on a consumption test.

My Mk1 used a lot in the first few thousand kms. They fixed something that was dripping (from memory) and barely used any since. Part of it was dripping, part of it was just running in chewing up some oil.

I now have a Mk2 with 3000km on it. It used 2 liters in the first 3000km. But they use thin run-in oil until the first service to help the rings bed in well, so I have no issue with that as I expect thin oil to be consumed faster than thick oil on a new engine (or an old one!). And there is also the fact I ran it in DAMN HARD - just sropped off my Mk1 and picked up the Mk2 and drove them both the same :)

I would expect my Mk2 will slow down its oil consumption over the next few thousand kms.

positive crankcase ventilation

From the net:

"The air filter and positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve are important parts of your vehicle's fuel system. The air filter provides clean air to a vehicle's carburetion system, and if it becomes clogged or dirty, it can cause your car to idle or run roughly and reduce gas mileage. The PCV valve helps prevent the release of gas fumes from the engine. If it becomes blocked or clogged, it can cause oil leaks and promote the formation of sludge in the engine. You should check your air filter every six months and replace it according to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. If you're unsure, replace the filter every 12 months or 12,000 miles, or sooner if the vehicle is operated in extremely dusty conditions. Replace the filter when it appears dirty or clogged. Replace the crankcase breather filter at the same time if it's dirty. Check the PCV valve and any related hoses whenever you check or replace the air filter."

My MKI used about 3/4 of a litre, then I changed the oil around 7,000 km's, and hasn't used a drop since. :spoton: Now done 35,000km's
