Changing Gears In A Manual T

I too agree it is something electronic.

I find it tends to happen more often when the ambient temp is lower, say <12degC.

Its not lag, because if you just hold it in gear at say 3000rpm for 5 seconds and then floor it, it simply takes off and there is no momentary wait before the power comes on.

Perhaps it could be the time delay in the wastegate responding to the commanded boost level?

This is possible because at the top end of the rpm scale (say 5000rpm) it may only be running 3psi boost, so the wastegate is far open, then when the revs drop, (to say 3000rpm) the commanded boost may go up to 6psi and thus the wastegate has to shut to increase the boost pressure.

Just a theory...

Hey Ross, what you are explaining is Lag. There are many different types of lag associated with turbo cars, spool up time is just one. The time it takes to fill the plenum is also considered lag,

Time it takes for wastegate to open/shut is very minimal, any wouldn't effect it imo..

I think its the fly by wire, as you say, being electronically inhibbited..

To all that have experienced this problem I need to ask you this.

Have you had the lates flash from ford? I have a MKII and ford told me the thing was overboosting on 8psi instead of 6, this was then causing the computer to cut the power as it detected this.

Well since having the latest flash my car goes like a rocket now and I have no noticiable turbo lag between changes.

The engine pulls as hard as it was before you put the clutch in and then resume acceleration. Definatly goes quicker

im bumping this as it is very evident now with the short shifter in my car..

into 2nd it doesn't have any problem chirping/sliding, but into 3rd and 4th there is a noticeable drop in power for a millisecond, kinda like when you just touch the limiter.. was there another thread on this where the answer was found? Can you definatly get rid of it with edit now?

anyone else getting this?

im going to say its turbo lag.

I have noticed the same things u guys have, remember its a big turbo on these suckers.

with the stock tune its not so bad but the more boost you use the more lag you will see as there is more power with more boost so 4 psi feels slow untill 15 psi kicks in.

a custom tune will allow more boost to be added lower in the rev range and give you the kick your after most generic tunes have a fairly soft boost curve.

removing the stock blockagecooler/intercooler will help too.

some will say im wrong but a bigger cooler and pipes makes boost earlier with better throttle response.

My cars got 244rwkw and mine won't spin chirp just in standard mode but go to fully manual mode in the auto and the fun begins :crybaby:
