Hi guys,

The next saga... Recently, when I start the T, there is a squeaking / rattling noise from the engine bay. Popping the bonnet leads me to think that it's coming from the large belt on the front of the engine (stop laughing), is this the timing belt?

The squeak picks up frequency as the revs go up and eventually disappears when the engine's warmed up. Over the last few days it's getting louder and more pronounced.

Any ideas from this lame description? :spoton:

its not the timing belt, its your pulley belt. mine does the same. when I got mine serviced they said they use emery paper to fix the problem. what they do with the emery paper I dont know as I didn't get into detail.

I had the same problem with mine, they changed the belt under warranty and the noise has gone completely. It isn't a timing belt just a belt to run the auxiliary components like water pump etc

I have been arguing about this my dealer for weeks. A mate of mine who is a mechanic thinks it is the belt tensioner pulley seazing up, mine happens when the car is hot. The dealer replaced my belt and it stopped a little bit, but when it's hot I still get a rattle from the front.

Thanks guys. Okay, so this is now another "It's happened to me too" item? Sheez. I guess it's another trip to the dealer. I'm beginning to regret my decision to let my south of the river dealer continue warranty work when I live NOR and work in the city.

Anyone got any comments on Centre Ford these days?

The correct term for that belt is a "Serpentine belt" and the squeel is common.

The dealer should fix this under warranty as some are crap.

Many thanks all, will book it in and get it looked at. I actually reported it a while ago and even took it in one evening so they could have it when cold the next day "No fault found". Well, it's got a fault now.
