Its reasonably simple - a standard car will go into limp mode if it is boosting higher than the ignition and fuel maps can deliver to.

If you get an aftermarket exhaust on a standard car, and it doesnt go into overboost - that suggests that the exhaust is not significantly better flowing.

An exhaust that pushes overboost must be flowing better / less restriction.

On a tuned car - the amount of boost is higher, and in some cases the protection factor isnt there as much - so wont overboost as easily.

Obviously the center muffler on its own isnt enough of a change to do too much.

My plan:

1. Edit (Wog tunes)

2. Centre Muffler

3. Clutch

4. Bigger Intercooler, Dump Pipe, Injectors and Tune (all at once)

In that order - but over a long term probably.

hey buddy they were my plans pretty much but after speaking to these guys I wouldnt mind an exhaust 1st, then when the cabbage is plentiful go the whole hog with injectors, cat, edit/tune, IC etc

The guy I was speaking said on average they are getting an extra 2psi of boost with a freer flowing catback exhaust without going into limp mode..

Don't waste the coin nang.. seriously..

If you want a better sound, just swap out the rear muffler..

If you want it to go, edit is the only way. You will need one eventually.

OR, there's an Xede goin in one of the threads for $250. I'm having a guy tune mine over my edit next week. If the results are good, might just be worth the $250 purchase price..

??? food for thought though..

Well I fitted Youngys old centre section today..

results, well......................... different..

Sounds a little louder at idle, full throttle she's really angry now.. ( I have no cat )

As soon as it comes on boost, it just howls.. mmmm. different..

I have a small vid which sort of sounds like it should.. ( to the ear )

I hated the sound at first, but am growing to it.. Sounds ok in the car, but I'll have to get a mate to do a fly-by for me... That will determine if it comes out, or different rear muffler put in or muffler goes back in.

Power wise, it sounds faster, but I highly doubt there's much difference till it gets tuned, then I'll know..

You can really hear now how 'hollow' the whole exhaust is.. 4" dump, no cat no centre muffler, factory rear muffler..

Upload dramas, so here's a linky.

Exhaust linky

Be honest with opinions on the sound, I'm a big boy, I can handle it........

Not sure if I'm a fan or not........

If I saw the vid, I'd say it's horrid aswell.. If it makes a difference in rwkw, I might have to put up with it..

hmm I dunno mate... not sure if the vid does it justice. Maybe a fly by vid?? Part of it sounded like me after a heavy night on the grog.. with severe morning after effects :spoton:

Perhaps it sounds better when the car is actually moving? It sounds mean though that's for sure.
