well for muffler removal and hotdogs I wouldnt be paying anything over $150

And also I got qouted about $350 for a cat back exhaust from a local exhaust shop

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If the $150 included mandrel bends with a flange so you can change it back then you did very well, if not I would be paying the extra to get it done properly :kissmy:

Excuse my complete ignorance here, but what is a mandrel bend and what benefit does it have over standard welding? Also, where is the cat located? By the sounds of things, it must be right up near the engine end? Jeez, sometimes it sucks being a newbie...

Mandrel bends have a constant internal diametre whereas a normal bend creates "corners" where it is bent, disrupting the airflow. Mandrel bends are dearer cos they take more time and effort. A simple explanation at best!

Just to get back on topic, I can only account for the sound of the twin 2.5" hotdogs, as this is what I have on mine. IMO it sounds really good without being too loud, no real drone issues, but if I was being picky there may be just a hint at 80ks, but not enough to talk about. The big plus is starting up cold and letting it idle, sounds tough!

I paid $260 for mine installed at Exotic Exhausts in Brissy and that included mandrel bends and proper bolt together flanges.

Cheers Clarke

They cant be mandrel bent with flanges, straight bolt in replacement.... If so, can you please supply their details?? Sounds like press bent welded jobbies at that price.

mandrel bent with flanges and hot dogs are normally around $300-$350.... I got two from exotic exhausts for $270 a piece and that included fitting for one... one was shipped elsewhere. (barry, you got a sweet deal  )

The system I have sounds fantastic... not too loud but still noticeble when up it... it does not drone and sounds factory when cruising... put your foot down and and cream your pants  Remove the centre muffler would be my advice

I'm tossing up doing the exact same thing ie. either a cat back system or just doing the centre muffler and am also very interested in all these responses. Barry Blue, so you just replaced the centre muffler with two 2.5" hot dogs? How does it sound at idle and light throttle openings on the road? My wife is VERY concerned that it'll be too loud!

Jetute, did you do a smilar thing to Barry? Sounds like just what I'm after - nothing too loud, even sounding fairly stock until you get up her! Have you done anything about your cat or have you just replaced the centre muffler?

Yes mate... exotic exhausts used my ute to make jigs for the utes and sixrt's car to make jigs for the sedans.... I am now on my second centre muffler replacement from exotic exhausts.

Just replaced the centre muffler, have not touched the cat... its all you need to do... at cruising speeds your wife wont even notice the difference... but when you stick it up her, she sounds ever so sweet :spoton:
